Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Camelia (Mimi) Felton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Camelia (Mimi) thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
The goal and mission of Mimi’s Yoga Kids is to teach kids and their families yoga through four key elements. They are mindfulness, inner peace, meditation and imagination. Everyone deserves to practice yoga as a part of their overall wellness routine. Teaching underserved communities is very near and dear to my heart. I don’t take this mission and purpose lightly. It gives me so much joy to see them reap the benefits of yoga.

Camelia (Mimi), before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Great Day!
My name is Camelia (Mimi) Felton and I am a lover of life that strives to spread love, joy, peace and light into this world I am a happily married wife, mom to six and grandmother to four grandsons. I enjoy helping people see that the light they seek is already within them. Life can dim it sometimes but trust me, it’s there. Enough about me. Let’s talk business.
Mimi’s Yoga Kids, LLC. is a mobile/virtual yoga company I started in 2018. It started from something that I needed at a very dark time in my life. At the time, I was a divorced singe mother of four plus caring for my oldest child’s son. I turned to yoga to help me deal and cope with all I had going on in my life. I was doing yoga at home and my then young grandson would often join me. He would mimic my every move and truly loved our little time together. A light came on for me that kids could also benefit from a yoga practice. I did my research and got certified to teach kids yoga. Shortly after, I had a yoga party at my house for little girls. Every one I invited came and had a blast. I infused yoga and mindfulness with a theme and the parents really liked the idea. After the party, I knew I wanted to do this a lot more. Parents would often ask me if I did yoga for adults. I realized I needed to further my training to help them as well. In no time I was teaching family classes, doing workshops, camps, schools, senior centers, healing circles and the list goes on. Then covid-19 hit in 2020 and it knocked me down. I quickly realized that I had to do things a little different. I started offering things virtually to help us all deal with the madness. I turned to my social media to get the word out. I met and formed beautiful relationships, collabs and met new friends that I still have today! I was able to teach yoga to kids and there families from all over the world. That truly blew me away.
Now here we are in 2022! Mimi’s Yoga Kids is truly thriving. The goal and mission is quite simple. To teach kids and their families yoga through mindfulness, inner peace, meditation and imagination. Something that is very close to my heart is going and serving communities that sometimes get missed. Seniors citizens is a beautiful community that I truly love teaching. I go to them and share the many benefits of yoga and they quickly fall in love. They enjoy learning yoga but more importantly they appreciate being seen, heard, valued and supported. It truly brings my heart joy. There is one other population that I am striving everyday to get to. I know that with timing, I will be in that space. It will truly bring everything full circle for Mimi’s Yoga Kids.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It started honestly with just creating a Instagram and Facebook page. It was one of the first things I did after creating Mimi’s Yoga Kids. I am a very visual person so I would put my ideas and happenings in this space. My presence in the yoga world was very important to me. I didn’t see a lot of people that looked like me doing this work. It matters to me that others see that this work is important. That I am making a difference in this world on and off the yoga mat! It has grown organically and I am very proud of that. So many wonderful opportunities have come from being on social media. I stay consistent and true to myself. Living my life and doing this work is my content. It’s truly fun for me.
My advice for anyone starting is to just create the pages. Put all the important information so people can get in touch with you. Be creative and consistent. If it’s not your thing and you can afford it, hire someone to help you create content and organize it for you. Bring light to what you have to offer and SHINE!!!!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson that I learn early on was valuing and knowing my worth. When I first started Mimi’s Yoga Kids, I did many things free of charge or at very little cost. I wanted to help people but that wasn’t helping me at all. My husband told me that If I don’t value my work, how can I expect anyone else too. I add value to anything I bring to the space. I know my worth and those that know it are the people I choose to serve. It’s just that simple.
