We recently connected with Camara Hamilton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Camara , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Growing up I was not the most confident child, I was bullied and teased on a daily basis. However as I got older and grew into myself things drastically changed for me, all of a sudden I was receiving positive attention but the years of being laughed at still played a role in my mind. So although I was getting complimented I still didn’t feel beautiful to me. After schooling I worked a number of different jobs, got away from negative people and fake friends, I started to live for me and my self confidence began to grow. In 2020 I was working a full-time job with a yearly salary but I was miserable, I decided to do a photo shoot for my birthday that year just to try something I different, I figured my beauty must translate on camera LOL. The whole planning process seemed overwhelming at first but when the day came to shoot I absolutely LOVED it! I never thought I would have so much fun and be so comfortable being in front of the camera in this new way. From there I decided to try to shoot something every couple of months since it can be expensive and I didn’t yet have any connections in the area. My next shoot was in February of 2021, another amazing outcome and I was getting even more comfortable with photographers and beginning to connect with other local creatives. Shortly after in March the company I worked for began to make changes that I disagreed with causing me to part ways with them, I didn’t know what I was going to do at this point but I knew I couldn’t just sit around. So I fully immersed myself into my creativity, making YouTube videos and Tiktoks everyday and just honestly enjoying the freedom of not working. In July of that year I began meeting local photographers through a Facebook group for creatives in my area and its been history ever since! I am now internationally and multi-published, I have been in music videos, worked with brands, and many more things to come in the future.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
