We recently connected with Cam Williamson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I definitely would have started my own brand sooner given the choice. I think it’s important to remember that you learn the necessary lessons at your own time. I think in a way, had I started my brand sooner, I would have ruined it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Absolutely so I started as a micro influencer on Instagram, promoting coffee and tactical gear in the veteran niche around 2017 after coming off deployment. I recently had gotten sober after my 3rd DUI after struggling with years of alcoholism. I went through a veterans treatment court in Montgomery Co. who had taught me about mental health and self care. I took the message as my life’s passion. I started The Road 2 Redemption Podcast where I could share my life lessons to shatter the labels and stigmas of mental health. That lead me away from the veteran niche due to the toxicity in a lot of the marketing. I like to consider myself a “nomad niche” which means I have none. I live life through many experiences. The goal is always the same. Stop the suffering of others who simply feel alone in their pain. I create weekly check-in podcasts where I discuss trending topics and focus in on one matter surrounding mental health. I also post multiple hiking vlogs a month. It was something I started for my mental health and just started creating content about it! It’s all about setting your soul on fire!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Success can’t and won’t come overnight. I think early in any entrepreneurial career, you have a dream. One day (often way to soon) some mythical character will walk into your life and dump money into your life because they see potential in you in your dream. I’m not saying that doesn’t happen, but it’s pretty rare. No one is coming with a money bag. One trending video won’t be life changing. It takes years and years of consistency to create anything more than a flash in a pan type effects.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I have to pivot about every six months. I’m someone who craves adventure. When I find my mental capacity with a subject, I hold no self judgement in switching. I know to trust my intuition. I know when I care about something enough that it’s worth putting my energy into. That’s a skill that’s learned by letting go of things that no longer serve you. Whether it be people, hobbies, video topics or apparel designs. Always be willing to look in another direction for passion.
