We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cam Schuessler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cam below.
Hi Cam, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’m so grateful to have developed my latest style of work because each and every commission is extremely meaningful! It’s been about a year since I decided to combine all of my favorite styles and materials into one body of work and channel it into my artwork. I’ve always been searching for a way to create work that has meaning deeper than what appears on the canvas, and I want the owner of the artwork to know something about it that the average person does not.
So my most recent artworks have been a sort of story-telling channel. I take a handful of questions for my clients about the most meaningful and important details to their lives, relationships, and stories and I arrange them in an abstract way through elements, colors, words, and symbols to create a painting that is individualistic and full of meaning! Using acrylic paint, pastels, colored pencils, and other materials, each commission is 100% unique and special to each owner but also abstract enough to pull others in.

Cam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I’m Cam Schuessler, and to label myself as just one thing would grossly miss the mark on all I currently do. My main career stands to be a model, as well as an artist! Although I usually am spending my time at a photoshoot or in my art studio, I take on freelance graphic design, web design, and interior design projects. My heart flutters at all things artistic and design focused, and I rarely say no to a new opportunity to use those gifts.
I’m an Atlanta native since 1994 – born and raised in and around the city, so it is my home for sure. I sort of stumbled into these industries in the sense of assigning them as my career, but it’s no mistake that I am here. As a kid, you could always find me in the craft section of the store, coloring and drawing in my free time, and taking up an affinity for photos. It wasn’t until, ironically, taking a break from college to figure life and my health out, until I took up painting as a trade. Slowly I began selling to friends and family, and soon the spark to make it a business ignited. Around the same time during my break from university, I began to stand in as a face on local photoshoots – which as you guessed slowly became more serious and official as time went by!
Today, I thank God for that time of my life, because if I had never pulled out of the whirlwind that college was for me, I might have never pursued a creative career!
You can find an array of artworks on my website and social media – mostly larger paintings on canvases, most recently my story-telling commissions. I love the use of color combinations to evoke a feeling or presence that says a lot about the client and story being told. Every single person, couple, and family is made up of thousands of stories – all intertwined – and looking at these works captures a glimpse of the most special parts of their lives. I love creating art for others, and I want everyone to be inspired by the simple action of me pursuing my God-given abilities and gifts. No matter if someone likes my art or not, I hope it may be the spark that causes someone else to use their potential: leadership, service, entrepreneurship, creator, teaching, whatever it may be.
I create from a space of gratitude – whether I’m modeling, painting, or designing – always working to serve my clients! My greatest wish is to make every interaction, project, or job a better place and to leave others better off! I’m here as a vessel for glory – giving back what’s been graciously given to me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Every single booking or sale is so exciting to me! There’s something so igniting about starting a new project, a new design, or showing up to a new photoshoot – knowing that there’s a person or team that desires to be a part of what you are creating. Sure, a like on an Instagram post is nice, but when someone invests in your creative journey, it feels like fuel in the tank – knowing that you have more of your gifts to put out into the world.
Seeing a vision come to life – whether that be a beautiful photoshoot or seeing your clients face light up when they see their commissioned artwork is so rewarding, to be a part of the betterment of someone’s day, week, or life.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think the journey as a creative is always unique to every single creator. There is no rule book, there is no instruction manual, and it is certainly never stable or linear. I think the journey is one that you have to write as you go – being flexible, innovative, and always looking to better yourself/ your craft!
Since there is no certainty in this industry, I think it’s important to note that you should always do you best to support your favorite artists/creatives if you want to continue seeing them create! Always recommend their services, be a source of referrals, invest in their work! The more “stable” an artist feels, the more able they are to freely create their best art and works.
