We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cam Malone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cam below.
Cam, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned Photography through watching/imitating my grandmother. She’s been doing photography for over 25 years and the essentials skills like lighting, angles, patience is definitely what got through to me. I guess in hindsight, had I gotten out of my shell more, I could have made those connections to build a genuine clientele; faster.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Cam Malone, I’m 22 years old from Kankakee,Illinois. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from Atlanta Technical College with an Associate’s in Cinematography. Growing up I always enjoyed taking pictures but didn’t discover a passion for it until the summer of 2019, where I was gifted a Sony Cybershot camera from my grandmother. A couple of months later I purchased a canon AF35M; my first film camera. I spent months over that period learning, studying, and ultimately full on engaging in film. I’m excited to say that i am still learning on this journey that I’m on. Photography to me is a split second in time where a raw, authentic, benevolent moment is displayed in all of its awe. To me, what sets me apart of from the rest is my awareness to understand that in this life, we are not always going to get it right and that’s okay, trial and error is what shapes and prepares us for what’s to come.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would say connection and relation. I want my work to be a vessel for everybody. The power of a genuine connection is supernatural. Creativity stems from the subconscious and when two or more brains link, the outcome of strategies and ideas that are produced can very well start entirely new project that you had in your mind’the entire time, you just needed that connection to expose it!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Definitely getting out of the house. Marketing strategies and promotions on social media, that’s new wave, but you have to get out and meet new people in order to form those new connections. Not everybody uses social media, and you’d be surprised how many people are just like you. Get out a network physically!
