We recently connected with Callmewhoelse and have shared our conversation below.
CallMeWhoElse, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
If you are starting from nothing. level 1 like I did, I would say 10,000 hours of practice. Not just any practice, mind you, but deliberate, focused, and purposeful practice. Results may vary. the mlPatience is a moral virtue because it contributes to happiness and living well. Waiting attentively involves discerning when it’s our turn to act. Waiting without complaint helps us not hate the waiting, and it helps us do our job well when it’s our turn.

CallMeWhoElse, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brandon Conner Thompson I was born in Los Angeles California. I moved to Colorado to find my identity & sound. I did not know it at the time so I made alot of mistakes along the way. I never gave up I turned losses into wins. Before I started my own company I was under others. From crews to radio stations I learned alot through trial and error. I was known as Young Fait and that was a lesson in its self. I went viral for killing that persona in a public way. I feel proud and I am not sorry for the move. If you are reading this yes I did it years before Eminem killed shady. My face is known in my state when I go to shows and public events so I became Who Else? aka CallMeWhoElse. People jumped ship, said my career was over with the move. Some of them was relevant at the time, some never spoke to me but had an opinion, some of them actually cared. Presently I had to re staff because the direction we was heading was nowhere. My engineer & and producer Antonio Noriega was not the producer and engineer I once knew. My label mates were leaving due to creative differences, I still listen to their music. It’s just me, TeayaMay, Lowdy Trail, DavidSoldOut, Lil Chin, Lerae Compton, & Ty Tones. The rest are on their own journey. I wish them the best but I see the difference in having a team and not having one and it makes me appreciate the music family I have. I have teamed up with Life At Risk Ent, went under management with Silverlining. I am very blessed to have Val Harris as my manager and business partner. She makes sure my paperwork and company runs smooth and I stay out of trouble. She got me a podcast on WGR Waatz Good Radio called Project Backspace. We did a New West Take Over at Temple and from there I think people knew we knew how to have a good safe time. We are doing our 2nd Take Over during the day at YMH “Your Moms House” Sep 15th for DavidSoldOut’s Wake N Bake series. I love halloween so we are preparing to throw our first themed party at the Gypsy House. Me and Ty Tones are working on my ep “WhoVille” and I have a single called “Go You Go Me” with Young Sage and we are doing a Tik Tok Competition for a cash prize. I thank those that took the time to read this and support the New West Movement with out the listeners and supporters I would have to work a job I would hate like a gas station or something I have done before. I am not knocking no 9 to 5 but I prefer to keep the music job I have now.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I am sure most artist will agree with me when I say it is such an odd but rewarding feeling to create something from your imagination and bring it into the world. I enjoy people’s feedback good, bad, I take that an analyze it to grow. When someone is singing along to the words and really enjoying the song. I am very subliminal so I also pay attention to those who catch when I say something but mean something else. I would say lastly I enjoy the conversations and debates from the hip hop community.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
During covid I was working at a gas station , like any job it came witht good days and bad day but the pay was barley anything. When covid came with strict rules, making us wear masks and gloves and the big kicker our pay and hours was cut in half and they expected us do twice the work. My wife noticed I was making more money from my music compared to my job, We watched I think for a month or two the difference in pay. Shortly after that my wife told me to quit no 2 week and do music full time. I am thankful & blessed because that was my last job. Some months are great, some months are stressful but the journey has been amazing.
