We recently connected with Calient’e Rouseau and have shared our conversation below.
Calient’e, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The beginning statement is SO TRUE! It is definitely a journey trying to figure out the PERFECT name for something that you are building yourself and that you’re hoping and praying will become a very well known household name. I intally chose a name that I felt was going to stand out and stick with my audience. I branded my business with labels, promotinal products, and websites, but after a year in buiness my team found that legally a name change would have to happen. This was very stressful because I had eastablished a brand my following had become familiar with. BUT, I was determined to make the pivot a successful one. So I sat down and began to go to work on a new stand out name- I choose to use family roots by combining my family’s names to make my new name even more unique than before. I come from a large family which includes 8 brothers and sisters and I wanted to include my parents as well as my nephew. So, I tried starting smaller and incorporating my parents name and my family last name. After writing down both my parents name, Melody & Jeffery, and writing down our last name, Rouseau, I began pulling letters and piecing things together to make a name that would still reflect the brand that I had built, So after several rounds of word play, the name Morjè was born. Once I landed on this name I also learned that Morje is actually a word with the meaning ‘Sea’, which only solidified my decision because I always felt the sea was way to channel relaxation and relieving stress.
Calient’e, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Since I was young, I had a passion for hair and skin which landed me in a career as a part time traveling cosmotologist after college. In 2020 I realized I wanted to redirect my passions to providing a product that could rejuvinate skin from the Outside-In naturally.
This transistion came easy to me, simply because I grew up around a holistic way of life from infancy. I learned at a very young age how powerful using herbal remedies, such as pure essentials oils, can have on a number of every day ailments; such as colds, fever, cramps, and inflammation. My first hand exposure played a huge role in developing a brand that can be theruputic to the body by using the remedies that nature has already supplied.
I developed Morjè by Calient’e to encourage people to include self-care into their daily routine by using the largest organ on their body- SKIN- to not only look good but also enchance their health. MBC’s current products list includes Body scrubs, Body Creams, Body oils, & Soaps which all contain forms of pure essential oil(s) in them. Since I started this journey its been my sincere intent to provide not only remarkable skin care products but to amplify overall quality of life one customer at a time. I truely want MBC’s products to create a haven of relief when customers use them which our motto of Self-Care is the Best Care- was built on.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that immediately comes to mind with this question is, “if you want something done, you need to do it yourself.” True, there is some truth to this, BUT trying to do everything yourself could result in the complete failure of your goal. Always hearing this saying of doing something yourself if you want it done, created an idea in my mind that I needed to have my hand in everything. Even though I have a part to play in what has to be accomplished, I had to learn that if I have hired someone to accomplish something for me, then I need to let that person do what they have been hired to do, especially if they have demonstrated that they are able to get the job done, and avoid mirco-managing because who likes to have someone breathing over their shoulders, definitely not me. So letting go a little and allowing another person to handle a task not only makes it easier for the person helping me, but it also frees up time for me to be able to tend to other task that need to be completed.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, I have found that meeting a person face-to-face is the best for me to build my customer base. People respond better to my skincare products when they can try them out first before buying. I have also found that when I am in person, I can talk to people one-on-one and really create a relationship with them and find out what they are interested in or what they may want to see selling one day.
