We recently connected with Caleb White and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Caleb, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I have a background in video, so I had worked with audio a bit, but definitely preferred video editing to working with audio. When I decided to try making podcasts I approached audio editing the same why I did video: trial and error, then looking up tutorials on youtube. To expedite the learning process, there were a couple things I took from learning video editing. First, learn the shortcuts for whatever editing software you are using- saving time on repetitive tasks will save a lot of time in the long run. Second, learn about the new functions on your software, and available with plugins. There are so many great tools to assist with audio/podcast editing and recording.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, I’m Caleb White, I’m a podcast producer and editor, and I cohost two shows; Log It! Another Movie Podcast and Vlasinda’s Desolate Library. I’ve worked in the creative field most of my life, directing and editing video projects, and working production in television marketing previously. I now produce podcasts and enjoy being able to help creators plan, record, and make a great show.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal would be to continue learning. And to build a life that allows me to pursue creative passions.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve had a few pivots in my career. I started working creatively mostly as a video editor, which led to directing and shooting my own and other’s projects. That eventually led to a desk job in television marketing. I enjoyed my time there and learned a lot, but realized it wasn’t going to be fulfilling – especially after the lockdown when most work was done over zoom calls. That’s when I returned to working freelance but this time to pursue podcast production, which I think is a good way to utilize a lot of the skills I’ve picked up in my career so far.
