Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caleb Whitaker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Caleb, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on to me would have to be my album “Echoes of a Previous Life”. We all go through heartbreaks and we all experience those situations in our own way but in a lot of ways, I feel like what I’ve been through could be relatable to a lot of people. The stories in my songs are true and filled with pain I’ve felt and past relationships that I never really had an opportunity to get over until I poured those feelings into the songs on the album. And I feel that’s where an artist’s best work is born from.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I first started singing and playing piano when I was nine. My mom had me and my siblings singing and playing at retirement homes and similar places. At the time, as a kid I had my complaints now and then but I am so grateful to her for that. I remember one day not long after, laying in front of my radio listening to music as I started writing my own lyrics. I never told anyone about it until high school when I ran into other likeminded people who encouraged me to record my songs. I eventually did and since then I have recorded in production studios from all over the country, worked with other talented artists, coaches, videographers, engineers and have met so many wonderful people along the way. I have spent countless hours training my voice and writing songs for both myself and others. Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Mario and Omarion are just a few of the artists who inspired me and have helped me get through some of the toughest times of my life and my mission as an artist is to help others through pain, joy and life in the same way. I am proud of the artist I’ve become and the long road it’s taken to get here. I am always looking and wanting to meet more beautiful people as I continue on my journey and hope my music brings emotional comfort to all ears that hear me.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Fiver and DistroKid. Understanding what those platforms can do for an independent artist earlier on would have helped me outsource and share on a larger scale sooner.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, it’s difficult to express how I feel a lot of the time. But when the music is playing and I have my notepad, everything bleeds out onto the paper. The most rewarding part of being an artist is when someone tells me that something I hold close to my heart, touched theirs.
