Caleb, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.

Our company, DUSK Digital, has recently had the privilege of working with a family-owned roofing company named Modern Exterior. Modern Exterior is owned by a nice young man named Tyler. Tyler needed some guidance on Search Engine Optimization. He is capable and wanted to learn more about SEO, so in the future, he could get his website to rank well on Google.

I met Tyler through a mutual friend on a hike up the Flat Iron trail in Arizona. Immediately I took a liking to him. The topic of work came up and we shared what we both do for a living. Interested in what Our company does, Tyler reached out after our hike.

Typically, we take over our client’s SEO campaign completely, but with Modern Exterior we found a different solution: we lay the groundwork by rebuilding his website with the best SEO practices, push out blog content, and then train Tyler on how to continue optimizing the website.

While working with us, Tyler immediately fit in with the DUSK team; sharing jokes, engaging in banter, and generally bringing new light to the environment. The DUSK team became fast friends with Tyler. Though the SEO campaign is still in the early stages, the journey has been wonderful. I look forward to celebrating success with Modern Exterior as they climb the ranks in Google and watching the light turn on in Tyler’s eyes when he has those ‘aha’ moments in his SEO education!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My name is Caleb Riutta, and I own a digital marketing company, DUSK Digital, based in Phoenix, Arizona. We offer search engine optimization, web design, and public relations services. The most satisfying thing for us as a company is moving the needle and celebrating the success of our clients as they grow. Traditionally, digital marketers companies have been paid for their input and paid for the amount of work produced; we have been leaning more towards our output and working more for commissions. This is exciting because it indicates that we are confident enough to take all the risk away from the customer and only get paid for the number of leads that we bring to the table. This is a win/win for both parties!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Hands down, social proof has been the most effective means of growing our clientele. For example, in search engine optimization, the goal is to rank the client’s websites highly in Google search for keywords that are relevant to their business offerings. I have found that potential clients will find us through our customer’s websites that rank in the first 3 results on Google. They want what our customer has and knows we are the reason for it and they reach out. Results are more powerful than words.

Any advice for managing a team?

Managing people is more challenging than just doing the work yourself. It is easy to stay at a specific size and do all the work yourself. However, if you want to scale up, relinquishing some control and hiring motivated people is the only way to grow. If you’re going to be an effective manager, I have one tip: ‘over-communicate.’ It boils down to asking the right questions rather than having the correct answers.

Keeping communication flowing promotes inclusion and lets your employees know that their ideas are heard in the workplace. This will allow your employees to work more efficiently and develop solutions for any bottlenecks that pop up. Sometimes, this requires multiple channels to allow for asynchronous communication.
