We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caleb Jimenez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Caleb, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Last year I released a project titled ‘Dearly Beloved’ EP. The ep consisted of five songs I created at my parents house and in my friends living room, who let me crash and record at his apartment when I was unable to at home. I was going through a lot at the time; dealing with relationship issues, family problems, etc. and to make things worse we were in the middle of a pandemic. It felt like all I had at the time was music. Day in and day out I was writing and trying to become inspired. Listening to a wide range of music from rock ballads and alternative indie songs to jazz pieces and a lot of pop music. Discovering a world I never really knew existed being raised on mostly contemporary christian music. All I could do most nights during that time was write and play. It was therapy for me I think it was the first time I truly realized that.
Caleb, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
kayfromfaraway is the artist you need to know about. The California native is a triple threat; writing, producing and performing all of his own records. Known for his chill sound and unique production, kayfromfaraway has been perfecting his craft since he was a teen. Present day, he’s put out a short but well respected catalogue of music along with production credits on various artist’s records. “From the ambitious production, to his stylish lyrical flow, this kid [kayfromfaraway] is just entertaining and delight to indulge in.” -LyricaLemonade
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Since I was young i’ve been creating art. All sorts, not just music. I didn’t understand the concept of what it meant to be an artist but I knew I was slightly different. In the sense that I couldn’t function without expressing myself through art, as most creatives can relate to. I am very thankful that my music resonates with some people, but I don’t make art for the sole purpose of recognition or likeliness. I do it because it gives me life. It makes me feel alive and If I never made a dollar off my art, I would still be making it the exact same way. So I guess the most rewarding aspect would be the therapy it provides.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I can’t see myself doing much else with my life other than traveling around the world and making/playing great music. I guess the goal driving my creative journey is to get to that point. Where nothing really matters; not money, not status not anything. To the point where I can just create on my own terms and do what makes me happy as a career choice.
