We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caleb Cobbs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caleb below.
Hi Caleb, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I began my music career, a mentor shared the importance of branding with me. He told me I should create a name highlighting the brand’s identity. I was already operating under the name Flibeats, so I used it to create the acronym FLI (standing for Feels Like Infinity). Feels Like Infinity is a phrase that embodies the concept that we can achieve anything we put our minds to and our abilities in this life are infinite. Greatness, opportunity, and success are all infinite when we believe.

Caleb, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I stumbled upon a music production software called “Fruity Loops” in 2005. I tinkered with it and used it to create beats as a hobby until a few friends of mine noticed the potential I had of having a music career and introduced me to some local artists in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth). I began making beats for rappers around the city from my home studio and later branched off into recording & engineering for local artists ranging from underground beginners to local celebrities. Many artists I work with are professionals in their craft and have experienced success in album sales, and media recognition. There are also others whom I had the opportunity to assist in songwriting, formatting, and development during their recording sessions. I’ve always taken pride in being hands-on with production, so any aspect of the recording process – I’m always available to assist.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building on social media has been one of the trickier tasks growing my career in production. At the start, I only had my friend’s support and no knowledge of how to reach people outside of my peers. As I continued to release music and promote myself, I made it a task to interact and connect with people who are either in my industry or show interest in it. By using that strategy, I was able to build genuine connections and reach new followers simultaneously

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew the power of YouTube at the start of my creative journey. We spend so much time and money in efforts to learn something (hiring coaches, attending workshops, purchasing learning materials) when we have YouTube University sitting in the palm of our hands. There were things that I didn’t realize I could’ve just learned on YouTube instead of waiting on the opportunity to learn them.. Things I knew I would need to learn eventually, I could’ve been teaching myself via YouTube instead of waiting for the opportunity to meet someone who could teach me
