We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caleb C-mo Morris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caleb C-Mo below.
Hi Caleb C-Mo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue all that I do as a professional venture once I realized it was a possibility. I think the first time I took a creative/artistic path seriously was when I first released a poetry book. I’ve been writing poetry for a few years now, probably since the beginning of 2020. Poetry got me through a lot of rough times in my life, and writing in general got me through even more. I wrote enough to the point my friend Alander Pulliam encouraged me to write a book. I laughed initially because “I’m not an author, I don’t know how to get a book published.” Then Alander showed me his books, which were available for order online. He showed me how to self-publish my books and get them into online markets, that revelation changed everything about how I approached any self-made projects. I was able to widen my scope and see my creativity as a product I could bring alive, in addition to an outlet that I would naturally express.
Since my first book, “A Brief Guide By My Mind”, I haven’t stopped pursuing creative/artistic paths professionally. I further entrenched myself in what more I could do. The second project I worked on seriously was my second book “The Next Step in Evolution”. My author name is “Caleb C-Mo Morris”, but that feels so formal and quite too long for an artist name, so I simply go by C-Mo. My first book came out in 2021, and this year I’ll release my third book. But this year I also did something different, I found another venture to pursue seriously, music.
Music has always been one of my first loves. Each year I would flex my ridiculous hours listening to music thanks to Spotify’s wrapped year-end-review. However this year, I’ll finally be able to appreciate music from an artist’s perspective. Throughout the years I’ve made songs here and there with homies, something to laugh at more than anything. This year I decided to take music professionally and have found myself making a little bit of noise (good noise). I put out a rap song about the sun titled… “Sunshine”. “Sunshine” has an upbeat vibe that draws people in, and now that I’m planning to take music as seriously as I take my poetry, I imagine both paths only going to improve.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I think about my “brand”, I don’t have a single answer about who I am or what I do, I recognize myself to be multi-talented. I believe there are a variety of fields that I can do well in, so I do my best not to allow myself to be boxed in – by myself or others. There are a few ventures that I want to explore, though I usually put the most time into what gives the most back. As of right now, that’s music. Behind that follows language learning, poetry, modeling, and any other passions I may fall into.
Poetry is where I started, so it’s only fitting that I start there. I began writing poetry after my leadership teacher Mrs. Belisle had us write leadership poems. Outside of an English class that scripted how our poems sound and what rules they follow, this was my introduction to poetry. This leadership poem inspired me to write more poetry. My teacher expressed to me how much she appreciated my work, and it was enough positive feedback for me to continue writing. Following the 2021 year, I had been writing poems for a little over 2 years when I moved to LA and eventually put out my first book at the end of the year. I decided that from here on I would aim to release one book per year, specifically centered around poetry.
In LA, I connected with a photographer named Ali. He needed models to boost his portfolio, I needed photos to boost mine. We did a photoshoot using different streetwear looks, and it was probably the most seriously I ever took modeling. I have a few friends in Washington who take photos, and I’ll find opportunities to have some shots snapped of me, but overall I haven’t pursued modeling the way I could/should/want.
In LA, I made a few songs as well. I enjoy the music I make now, but not so much what I made before so I’ll likely never release them, but it gave me a background and an introduction. Now that I’m back in Lacey, Washington, I have made a few friends who are into music. They pushed me to apply myself, and while it took a little bit for me to be recognized as someone who is genuinely passionate about music, there is no denying now that making it as an artist is an item to cross off my bucket list.
Nowadays I spend a lot of my time learning languages. In the past year, I have committed to learning small phrases now and again in various languages. But over the past year I have worked to achieve basic conversational fluency in Spanish, and now venture into French and ASL. While language learning isn’t quite a creative venture, it’s something I value and an item that will be very present in my creative ventures. The next song I plan to put out is a Spanish song :) My next book will also feature some Spanish poems :)

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to bring change to the world. I think the world would be a way sweeter place with a lot more love, kindness, and care for those around us. I want to build a strong community around me because I know that when people come together, so much can be accomplished. I want to bring encouragement to others and motivate them to be the best they can be, and provide perspective where necessary. For example, I hear many people say they can’t do something, but I have always strongly felt that if we don’t have a positive attitude, it’s difficult to maintain anything but a negative outcome. So if I can provide one thing from my art, may it be a better attitude or mindset :)

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As I see it, the most rewarding aspects of being an artist or creative are connecting with others, creating something people genuinely enjoy, and the good vibes that something I create may bring. It’s super surreal to create something that does end up being perceived by other people, and as humans, I think all we ever want to be is loved. A bit of that is felt every time someone appreciates my art. Because any and every piece I create is and will always be another facet of me.
