We recently connected with Caleb Baldwin and have shared our conversation below.
Caleb, appreciate you joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
One of an unexpected issue I’ve had is rather personal. It’s been two years since I lost a relative very close to me , but I still ponder to this day. Close to me that of a sister , unexpectedly , a titular motive had disappeared from my life. It was hard to focus. I had questioned myself , questioned my time for being here but I also felt rooted. I’ve lost opportunities, I’ve lost money but you know, losing family is hard. Luckily, I had my music and journals to creatively channel my emotions into the opposite. Being grateful felt difficult compared to grief but it soon proved as the perfect remedy. From this , gratitude taught me patience and along came with strength. Being grateful is what keeps us positively connected to those who passed , it makes you cherish the seconds you have with whose next to you. And so I practice to be grateful.
Caleb, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
There’s not much to say. Im just a kid from Houston, Texas that sang in youth church choir. I love my family and God is my rock. Thank you for the time and thank you to those reading this. Your support means more than you know it and if you love art , show it. Create things, enjoy life and be brave because we need more courage out there!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Some years ago , a backyard project incident messed up my hand. A pretty sizable rock took the nail off my index finger , dominant hand of course… My only thought (aside from pain) is anger , for the fact of if I could or couldn’t write anymore. The situation turned out fine but initially thinking , I would have to type my lyrics in my phone going forward. Not exactly my favorite method of practice. Even through the process of healing , I did what I could to keep going. I trained my left handed signatures , learned joint rehabilitation exercises and even sang my lyrics into voice memos. I wasn’t sure when my hand would heal , but I know still had goals to reach.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think I recently just had a pivot. As heavy and intentional my pivots are , this one was rather more seamless. These days I tend to preface my statements with “personally” because I’m not always correctly objective. I analyze other people , myself included and how we react to the world and I chart my own experiences. It’s accounted for as progress. Furthermore, days seems to past quicker and I notice myself getting more attention. My statements come across clear and I find myself counting more positive experiences than negative. Whether it’s metaphysical or not , whose to say. While some would reckon as fortune , I’ll tell you that happiness is a lifestyle and success only has one formula. Hard work.
