We recently connected with Cale Potts and have shared our conversation below.
Cale, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
When I first started my own freelance design company back in 2019, I only had one client. However, this client told others about me, and it was like a domino effect. Fast-forward to now, and some tour visuals I made for some major DJs just played on screen at Coachella.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up making super weird videos and editing them in Windows Movie maker. When I got into middle school I took a video production class and was able to work on a Mac. From there I fell in love. Throughout high school I took broadcast and would make probably the weirdest but funniest videos that would play for the whole school every Friday.
When I got into college, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something with video, but my school really only offered journalism. I decided to take that, and quickly realized that the only jobs I could get from this would be in sports or the news – and I hate both.
I was at a college party one day when I discovered one of my friend’s graphic design process books. It was filled with all the incredible work she was doing, including screen shots from videos she was making. I fell in love and immediately decided to double-major in graphic design.
From there I got really into motion graphics. I had an incredible goofy professor, who loved to break down barriers and experiments with weird design. He inspired me to do the same.
I love making weird art. Trippy art. Something that you don’t see all the time. My love for music inspired me to start reaching out to DJs and bands whom I loved. I posted one Instagram art a day for a year (before Instagram’s algorithm went to crap). This is how I started getting a lot of work.
Now I mainly do music videos and have recently started doing tour visuals for bands.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My first two corporate jobs were extremely toxic. I didn’t just graduate and start freelancing right away. I had to make extremely boring videos and graphics for companies who really didn’t even care about art.
This was really challenging to get inspired, however, I persevered and did the best I could to make an amazing video – even if it was for an air conditioning company.
I thought I’d never enjoy working in my entire life, but now that I’m freelancing, I’m so much happier and way more successful than I ever thought I could be.

How did you build your audience on social media?
To build my audience on Social Media, I first made sure my Instagram was consistent. I posted daily. I tagged artists who I wanted to work with. I spent a couple hours a day engaging with other artists, liking posts, etc. From there it slowly started to pick up, and now I have a decent amount of followers. I believe it helps give me credibility with new clients.
