Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cale Alexander, PT, DPT, Cert DN. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cale, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Jumping in full time was a huge risk for me. It’s tough to leave the full time, salaried job when you know that you have a paycheck waiting on you each week no matter what happens. But, I knew that if I wanted to get to a place personally and professionally that I was happy and content with then I was going to have to start my own physical therapy practice.
It can be tough when you first start (and even now) to know that you are supporting yourself and that you have to grind each and everyday, but that is one of the things that pushes me to be the best clinician I can be. And there is nothing more satisfying in business than calling the shots for yourself.
Now, I am able to focus on the clientele that I want to treat (Golfers and CrossFitters) and model my practice completely around their needs in order to best serve them!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dr. Cale Alexander and I am the owner of Next Step Physical Therapy and Wellness. We are based in Hernando, MS, but also see clients in and around the city of Memphis. Our practice is primarily geared towards golfers and CrossFitters.
We have a mission of helping athletes realize the resiliency of the human body in order to do what they love without pain!
We help golfers overcome physical limitations, whether that be pain, lack of mobility, strength, or to improve their biomechanics, in order to help them play better golf. This starts with a golf specific movement screen which leads us into strength specific testing, joint specific testing, and then helps us to develop a game plan on how we are going to improve their golf game together.
We see our CrossFitters for primarily two reasons: to rehabilitate injuries or to maintain/improve their bodies to continue to hit personal records as often as possible. I myself have started performing CrossFit over the past year and it has been awesome to workout alongside clients that I have helped overcome injuries to get back to what they love to do.
I myself am certified in Dry Needling and am also certified by the Titleist Performance Institute. I utilize a variety of hands on techniques to help heal my clients. This can include dry needling, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, and stretching.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The drive to help people. I know that I have to wake up each day and make a positive impact on my client’s lives. Whether that be by helping an athlete reduce their shoulder pain so that they can perform an overhead squat again, or helping a golfer push themselves to the next level so that they can obtain a college scholarship; that is what drives my practice forward each day.
If you are in physical therapy, or healthcare in general, for the money then you picked the wrong field. You have to have a passion for helping people. For me that is helping golfers and CrossFitters push themselves to the next level.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me I think putting myself out there and not being afraid to show who I am and what my goals in business are has helped build a strong reputation. I have had multiple golf coaches (Brittany Thompson and Mark Grace to name two) who have supported me and been a blast to work with. I have also had two gym owners in Hernando who have been in my corner from day one and that is Jordan/Emily Garrison with CrossFit Hammered Steel and Robert “Scooter” Rayborn with HQ Fitness.
Without the support of some of these people I would not be where I am today.
I have also made a point to continue to learn and grow in the golf and CrossFit industry. I have obtained a Titleist Performance Institute Certification for golf and continue to learn/grow in the CrossFit realm in order to better serve my clientele. I also make it a point to share the knowledge I have on our social media pages so that my clientele can continue to utilize us as a resource.
From there, we just try to serve our clients individual needs in the best way possible. I have always had the belief that if you treat people the right way then they will tell others and your business will grow organically.
