Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cal Henry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Cal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’d say the biggest risk we’ve taken is betting on ourselves and uprooting our lives from Florida to move out to Los Angeles.
We had been playing music in and around Florida for many years and were doing all the things you do as musicians, played the cover gigs, opened for bands touring through, played all the major festivals and so much more. But as the world started opening up again after Covid we all looked at each other and realized we had hit our ceiling there. At that moment we decided we need to go big. So we packed up our cars and moved across the country – pets and all!
I’d heard so much about LA as far as music was concerned but it wasn’t until moving here that I found out it was true! There are so many talented people out here. It’s really inspiring for us, we are constantly writing, creating and pushing ourselves to write and make more and more music.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Cal, the guitarist. I’m married to Marjorye who is our manager, Spencer is the singer and he’s married to Lea, our drummer. To top it off we’re all best friends! We’re a tight-knit group to say the least. We’ve been performing and making music together since high-school. We make in-your-face rock and roll with heavy guitars, big drums and aggressive vocals. We love to play music so that’s pretty much all we do…except for getting boba! Music and boba do go hand in hand for us.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Collaborating with other musicians. This is such a powerful way to grow and become a part of the community.
Get in a room and play a cover, record that for social media. Or better yet, make an original song together! You will be introduced to new people and grow your fanbase that way.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve been playing music for over half of my life. I’ve been asked, “So, when are you gonna get a real job?” more times than I can count. But I don’t care. Music is too fun to stop doing it. I can’t imagine my life any other way. We are independent so everything we make comes from us. Every. Single. Piece. Of. Content. It can be draining and time-consuming but because I have my band I know I can look to them to keep pushing forward and vice-versa. We have some new songs coming out in a few months that we are really looking forward to!
