We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caitriona Quirk. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caitriona below.
Caitriona, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am a queer, adventurous, artist. My passion for equity in access to photos has driven me to have a budget forward model. I grew up in a home where we couldn’t afford nice photos, so that is something I aim to make accessible. As a queer artist, I create a safe space for others to be authentic in front of the camera. Working with such an amazing community makes my heart happy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started photography in high-school with a film class, and then another! I quickly saved for my first digital camera set-up and started taking senior photos for my classmates. Once I had left for university, I began working with companies to take event, brand, and concert photos. As a dance degree student, I also dove into dance concert photography. I now do both portrait and event photography.
Something I help my clients with is feeling confident and authentic. Being queer and an adventurer, I have made photography more accessible.
I have absolutely adored working with more couples and weddings as time has gone on. I am hoping to continue to celebrate love, queer love, and all the amazing people there are!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that good photos aren’t always the perfect ones. Capturing truth, moments, and authentic selves are so valuable.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Getting to meet people and showing them how amazing they are. It brightens my day when I know my photos made someone feel more confident in themselves.
