We recently connected with Caitlin Shirock and have shared our conversation below.
Caitlin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project are ones where I can partner with other people and help others through art. For instance when I launched my ASL I Love You Hand Sign Print, it was meaningful because so many people who care about the Deaf community came together. We raised funds for a kids camp so that more Deaf children can have the camp experience. We educated the people, got members of the Deaf community involved and raised funds so that more children can experience the joy of a camp with other friends that they can really relate to! We continue to raise funds for the Deaf community by donating monthly to Bridges in Nashville.
Anytime you can collaborate with others who share the same passions, and make a difference for the better is when the work is the most meaningful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Caitlin Shirock, Founder and Artist of Cash Color. I am originally from MI but Nashville, TN is home now. I am a working mom of two littles and am so thankful every day that I can create and build a business here in the south. There are so many creatives in this city– it’s my favorite part about Nashville!
I create high quality prints and Original artwork. You will find me at local markets like my favorite, Porter Flea or showcasing my Original Art at Art Crawl in WEHO or at the MBA Art show November 10-12.
I aim to add joy to your home decor and tell your story through art that will uplift you. I hope you feel the joy that I had making each piece when you see and experience my art.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Before you buy from the big box stores, think again. I promise you, when buying from someone small, they are going to make sure you love what you are getting because they care more than you can imagine.
Imagine how much more interesting your home can be if it is truly unique. When purchasing art, don’t follow the trends, follow your heart.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There have been so many lessons during this creative journey.
Creating art and making it a business is tricky. Art is so personal and emotional, yet we need the business side in order to maintain and keep being able to create. If you’re a creative looking to turn your efforts into a business, remember that everything is just a test. Create what is on your heart but listen to what people are requesting. Nothing happens overnight. Be patient with yourself. Celebrate your wins. Always help the new person.
