Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Muelder. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Caitlin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
I approach my Astrology and artistic projects with a commitment to creating a more empathetic and inclusive framing to the human experience. My astrological approach is focused on increasing greater awareness and through that empowering my clients and my characters.
Caitlin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Judgment-Free/Yes-And Astrologer, focused on increasing greater awareness, empathy, and empowerment by uniting the exoteric (personality/ day to day/micro-life) and esoteric (spiritual/psychological/macro-life), astrological perspectives. I was mentored by Heidi Rose Robbins, and was an early member of the Lighted House School of Esoteric Studies. My continuing studies include Psychological Astrology, Feminist and Gender-Fluid Archetypal Astrology, Pagan, Indigenous and Non-European Cosmology, and related interests include: Global Mythology, Folk Magic, and Traditional African-American Hoodoo Voodoo,Astronomy, Astrobiology, Astrophysics, as well as Quantum and Particle Physics. In my practice, I hope to help liberate others from confusion, fear, or shame by welcoming and integrating all “aspects” of the astrological self. I’m committed to a post-modern, intersectional feminist approach to astrology. I aim to remove patriarchal framing from it and reconnect astrology with it’s roots – a kind of cosmological philosophy grounded in empathy. This includes challenging preconceived assumptions about how they’ve labeled themselves or others, and how they can work with the energy of the cosmos, their lives, their storylines, in order to turn the “problem” into the solution. My own natal Astrology is also very helpful in being a translator of the cosmos: I’m a “Grand Water Trine”: Cancer Sun, Pisces Moon, Scorpio Rising (which is all about emotional intelligence and a psychological awareness of life), with a prominent and multi-aspected, Gemini 8th House Stellium (intellectual curiosity, and research.)
My background and career as an artist/ performer/ writer (I have an MFA in Classical Acting) also informs my Astrological practice, by helping me bring mirth and metaphor when giving language to astrological, mental/ emotional, an “occult” subject matter. I have worked on Broadway, in TV and feature films, and my screenwriting is repped by Heroes & Villains Entertainment, in Los Angeles. Whether its through astrology or the arts, I love to connect/ re-connect people with the larger idea of who they are, and help them recognize and the impact they have on the world around them.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first starting using social media in a professional context, I felt uncertain about how to go about sharing both of my passions on social media. I was worried, about confusing my audience (is she a creative artist *or* in the healing arts), so I chose to simply express myself authentically and not worry about labeling/limiting myself into narrow categories. I blend pop culture-humor, an arsty-fartsy, David Lynchian fever dream aesthetic, with political discourse, and it somehow works. Being my authentic self online, helped my social media take off in an authentic (more natural), way.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the concept from previous generations, that in order to succeed in your career you have to hyper focus on one avenue rather than embrace being a multi-hyphenate.
