Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Dunn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caitlin, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
For as long as I can remember I was in love with the arts and being creative with my hands. I followed my passions to a studio arts major at the University of Denver. I loved so many art fields including ceramics, photography and print making. It wasn’t until I was studying abroad in Florence, Italy that I discovered my love for metalsmithing and jewelry design. I was hooked after the very first class. After graduation I found a jewelry internship in Boulder, CO and became a metalsmith assistant in Jackson Hole, WY. I then created my own line and company and the rest is history!
Caitlin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a metalsmith and jewelry designer. I never planned to be an artist but I am so glad I am! I followed my passion of the arts and I luckily found opportunities to continue growing as an artist. I took every opportunity and worked very hard to create my own business. I am so proud to be able to support myself doing what I love.
My jewelry collection is influenced by travel, simplicity and her beautiful surroundings of Aspen, CO. Caitlin Dunn Jewelry embodies nature’s organic yet symmetrical characteristics. I strive for simple design and subtle elegance in each piece of jewelry. Every piece is hand made by the artist making each unique. The collection is made with Sterling Silver, 14kt Gold-filled, 14k & 18k Yellow Gold, or Bronze and is then accented with precious and semi-precious stones. Environmentally friendly practices, recycled metals, conflict free diamonds and natural stones are used whenever possible. All pieces are made in my studio in Aspen, CO.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love to watch a piece of jewelry go from parts and pieces to a complete piece of art that I make from start to finish. Working with my hands everyday to create jewelry that will become part of someone’s life and story is so rewarding.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission with my company is to make designs that people can connect to and cherish for years to come. I don’t want it just to be jewelry, I want it to become of piece of you. I want my jewelry to spark little pieces of joy everyday.
