Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitie Peterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Caitie, thanks for joining us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
We are huge animal lovers and are known as The Candles That Give Back. We donate back to animal welfare organizations with products to be used as raffle items for organizations to raise much needed funds to continue their mission as well as proceeds from The Rescue Candle in which we feature an organization on the candle label and donate 50% of proceeds back to the organization. I chose to do this because I am also the Vice President/Co-Founder of a dog rescue organization, Winston’s Wishes, and know, first hand how much donations help our mission.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Caitie and I am the owner and candle maker behind a small hand poured candle company called Wet Nose Candle Company. Inspired by my pets and wanting to create a product that is safe to use around you and your pets, Wet Nose Candle Company was created. We are a cruelty free business that uses all natural soy wax, phthalate free fragrance oils, and all natural wooden wicks made right here in the USA. To ensure the highest quality and care is put into your orders, each candle and pack of wax melts are poured by me in the basement of our home and each order is also hand packed by me out of our home. I am once full time factory worker that spent 12+ hours a day working and would come home to fill candle orders until recently when I took the leap to quit my job to finally take a chance on myself to pursue my dream of being a full time candle maker and rescue dog and cat mom.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My business started from a candle making kit my sister gifted me and with the help of my fiance´ it grew into what it is today. Ever since starting to make candles I had a full time factory job until recently when I quit my job to finally take a chance on myself to pursue my passion full time.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best way to gaining new supporters is by attending in person vending events and through our Rescue Candle Fundraisers. I parter with animal welfare organizations across the country to raise money for their mission and in turn I get my name out there to people who may not have heard of my business.
