We recently connected with Caiti Loomis and have shared our conversation below.
Caiti, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
She Captures All Photography was created in the middle of the night inspired by a dream that I had that shook me to my core. The dream consisted of me walking into a beautiful office space surrounded by portraits of people. These portraits were different but beautiful and chocked full of emotions. I took a deep breath when I walked in, as if I was proud of the pictures on the wall. I walked into what looked like my office, which consisted of more portraits that displayed emotions such as anger, fear, rejection, etc. I was a therapist by the looks of the bookshelf on the wall and the layout of the office furniture. However, I was a different kind of therapist. I was using photography to formulate a therapy program for my clients. The pictures on the walls were displaying how my clients were feeling at the time they were being photographed. I sank into my chair in my dream in complete and utter bliss. I woke up from the dream drenched in sweat, I knew I needed to create a photography business while I was in the process of becoming a therapist. So, I created She Captures All to start displaying peoples emotions for others to see.
I have had a dream of becoming a therapist for the better part of ten years and I am currently looking into graduate studies in clinical psychology. I am so excited to bring my business back to the original intention… to capture all emotions throughout my therapeutic processes.
I felt I could succeed for many reasons. I had been practicing photography since starting in the dark room at age fifteen, I had “the eye for it” as described by many of my mentors throughout the years. I pursued photography in almost every endeavor after high school and stuck with it in many different contexts. I have done sports photography, artistic photography and now wedding and portrait photography. I knew with my background and future focus in mind, I wouldn’t give up on making She Captures All successful.
Caiti, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Caitlin but I go by Caiti! I was born premature and survived the odds of life stacked against me at a whopping 1 pound 11 ounces. I have continued to survive odds, trauma, military service, deployments, and now motherhood. I started photography when I was in high school, it was my creative outlet to cope with my environment and upbringing. It allowed me to share a piece of my perspective and make it beautiful to others. I was able to pick up my first camera and take film class, developing photos in the dark room was my safe place. I continued photography in my undergrad taking sports to a higher level through my lens. In my Army adventures I was able to becoming apart of the public affairs team as a side gig and take photos of soldiers in their toughest battles. I never put the camera down and targeted so many specialities so as not to narrow myself down in the photography industry.
I am now photographing weddings, as I have found that I love to capture romance. I also photograph self portraits and families. I want to narrow it down to just the portrait sessions once I finish my doctorate and become a psychologist. However for now, I work with clients all over Oregon and Washington to capture their special days. I shoot with Canon mainly and have various mediums that I dabble in, including film photography/ videography.
What sets me apart is my perspective, I have such a creative take on any wedding that I photograph and love to see the look on my clients faces when they are able to see themselves through my lens. I have an innate ability to feel my clients emotions, capture them in a new light and even change the way they see themselves. I connect with my clients and learn exactly who they are so that I may display the exact moments in which they find important.
I am the most proud of my growth over the last year in my business and getting to know people from all over the PNW. I am so excited to see what the future holds once I can incorporate therapy through photography. However, I am entirely invested in my weddings and I want to start traveling the US photographing weddings. I want to start booking in different states/ countries so I can display diversity and capture people from all over the country. That is my focus for this coming wedding season, I love to travel!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to create beautiful photos for my clients to hold on to forever. I love being apart of the moments that my clients are hiring me to capture, I have new experiences each time I show up to a shoot. I love being able to capture people at their best, worst, and every emotion in between. It allows me to not only express myself through the creative process but also connect with people in a different way.
I am so lucky to be there through these incredible moments with perfect strangers and broaden my knowledge of human emotion to give each and every client a different perspective of themselves.
I also love the community of being an artist and I can’t wait to eventually be able to connect with other photographers in my area and collaborate. It is a small industry and I love helping other photographers and mentoring.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey will eventually turn into the basis of my future therapeutic practices. I am so excited to get started on the journey of becoming a psychologist so I can help people see themselves in true form in each stage of healing or processing whatever it is they are going through. I keep this in my mind as I photograph each and every day and I am happy to be apart of the wedding photography scene at the moment to capture love in its truest form. I am learning a lot about people and working so closely with different types of couples. I would love to be able to capture weddings in Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, New York, Spain, Italy, etc. I would love to stretch far and wide before narrowing down my work into therapy.
