We were lucky to catch up with Cait Brennan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cait, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
For me, it’s the airplane analogy of “put your own mask on before helping others”. Being an entrepreneur is so different than any hourly job, because the work hours are set for you by your employer if you are hourly. As an entrepreneur, it can feel like any time not spent working on your business is a lost opportunity to be making money. I have had that problem as a real estate agent; not knowing when to put the work down and take moments for myself. Through a lot of personal work I have found that if I am the best version of myself, energized mentally, healthy and well rested, I do my very best work, and this is reflected in the experience my clients get from me. I always make sure to hustle hard and play hard, because without those breaks to enjoy life and reset, I will burn out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi everyone, my name is Cait! I am a California native, from the East Bay to Santa Cruz (go Banana Slugs!) to North Lake Tahoe – now settled in Sacramento. I now live in oak park with my girlfriend Danica and my two dogs, Rue and Riley
I have always been inspired by being out in nature, especially with my dogs, and enjoy watching sports (love seeing that beam lit but will forever be a Warriors fan). Happy to chat about anything and everything, I love building meaningful connections.
Buying my first home was such a new and overwhelming process, and I know first hand how big of a decision it is to take the leap into homeownership. I want to people to know how invested I am in making their experience tailored to them, from start to finish. My promise is to bring my authentic self to every interaction and to go above and beyond to ensure my clients feel at peace and excited about their life changing purchase!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me have been open houses! I love meeting new people and building genuine connects, even if it is briefly. I am a total extrovert and thrive in those scenarios. I also find that it is the quickest way to meet the most people that are very interested in buying.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My whole life growing up I was an athlete, and it was my total identity when I was young. While playing softball in high school I tore my shoulder, had surgery to repair it, but subsequently tore it three more times. From there it cascaded to a total of 13 joint surgeries – 4 shoulder, 6 knee, and 3 hip, with my most recent surgery last year. In my mid twenties I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder call Ehlers-Danlos that affects connective tissues and joint laxity, causing chronic pain. It has been a very difficult journey for me and some days are good and others are much harder, but as I continue on this journey with chronic pain I am able to string more good days together than bad. I believe keeping a very positive attitude and an mentality of not giving in has kept me and will continue to keep me afloat through the struggles that come with this disease.
