We were lucky to catch up with Cait Berry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cait, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to help people accept ownership in their lives. When we’re feeling unsatisfied in life, it’s tempting to blame the circumstances around us. In reality, we each are the common denominators in our own lives. If we’re moving too fast through life, we may forget the simple fact that we are the ones who have the power to initiate change and align with exactly what we want and need. This all starts by making yourself relevant. When you make yourself relevant, you acknowledge yourself, you become aware of who you truly are, and you advocate for what you want and need. When you make yourself relevant, you take back your power and stop innocently standing by as life happens to you.
I realized my mission with Right to be Relevant after a big “a-ha” moment I experienced a few years ago. I looked around in my life and realized how out of alignment I felt with my relationships, my career, my hobbies, my lifestyle. The realization was setting in that what the world wanted and expected of me was far more relevant than what I truly wanted for myself. I caught myself doing things I didn’t really want to do, going to a job I didn’t really enjoy, participating in relationships that didn’t actually feel good, and living in a way that felt totally disconnected from my truth. After living so long without really realizing that my unique self was here all along, I started to notice myself. I started to listen to her. I started to see who she truly was. After I raised my self-awareness, I started externally advocating for what I noticed, and my life started changing. I found the people, places, and things that complimented my true self. I stopped feeling like an actress playing a role in a movie. I stopped living my life like I owed a certain version of myself to anyone. Once I began this process, I couldn’t help but notice so many people around me struggling with this same concept. I knew I had to share everything I found on my journey inward, towards myself. Self-love and self-awareness is for truly anyone and everyone. My mission is to help people have this same “a-ha” moment I experienced. We all deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. We each have to start with seeing, hearing, and understanding ourselves.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Right to be Relevant is all about pointing you back to yourself, because you are IT. If you want more satisfaction and alignment in your life, you don’t have to go out searching for answers or look for anything outside of you. I want to help people realize that they have it all, right here, right now, with full permission granted to tap into their self-awareness whenever they are ready. Once I realized my power, my life started to change and the things I convinced myself were “problems” started to transmute or dissolve. Easier said than done, but worth the investment of my energy! I wrote my book, Make Yourself Relevant, as a way to give someone the guidance that could help them change their life, the way it changed mine. I also created decks of affirmation cards to go with the book. You can pull cards each day, or use it as a journaling prompt in your morning routine. Everything I create is rooted in the mission to make self-acceptance approachable for all. I want people to know that getting to know and love yourself is your birthright, and it is also the key that unlocks clarity and alignment in all areas of your life (career, relationships, finances, etc). It all starts with you.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The fact that I get to be the container to bring this work to life is the most rewarding aspect of being a creative. I always say, I don’t even consciously remember writing my affirmation decks or my book. It all flowed through me and onto the keyboard in a beautiful way. There was no resistance in creating my work, there was no creative struggle. It just…happened. I know there is a reason this message is shining through me. I know I personally have no ego attached to the books and decks I create, because I truly do consider myself the lucky thing that’s giving all of this a voice and an image. It’s a honor, really. It’s so rewarding to feel so in unison with what I get to create and bring to the world. My favorite part of Right to be Relevant is speaking with individuals at events or workshops about self-acceptance and self-love. It fascinates me that because we are all humans here in this life, we all have this journey of self-acceptance in common. It’s a thread that ties us all together, and I find great joy in talking to people of all different walks of life, who connect with the messages in my book and decks. It grounds me to know we are all in this together, and I appreciate having the opportunity to ignite conversation about such an important topic.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There are endless books and social media accounts I have followed that have influenced the way I behave as an entrepreneur. But my best bit of advice to any entrepreneur is to never let any advice, teacher, or philosophy override your own internal guidance and intuition. Any piece of information you consume is a compliment to your original thinking, not a replacement or one-size-fits-all blueprint for you to run with. It can be overwhelming to hear all the various opinions and different ways you could do business. Hold your ground as you consume and learn, and know that *you* are the gatekeeper for what you do with your business. If something doesn’t feel right, listen. If you’re told you have to or should be doing something a certain way in your business but it’s not quite feeling aligned, listen. Don’t forget that a big reason you went out on your own as an entrepreneur is to be your own boss. So be that. Be the boss of how you do things. Educate yourself, learn a variety of options, and maintain your power in deciding how you want to show up in the world as an entrepreneur.
