We recently connected with Caffery Wu and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Caffery, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It was a sad story but me and my ex had a puppy together and shortly after that we broke up. I was really missing my puppy and decided it was a good plan to start putting my emotions into music and release them. Been working hard on producing and DJing since then. I also want to take the time to thank my mother for always supporting me since I was very young. I remember her asking me if I wanted to go through music school when I was around 6 and I turned her down because I didn’t know what life would be like if I did. I’m glad I finally decided to give music a shot and see how far I can get.
Caffery, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Music to me, has always been the way to express my emotions. The way I grew up, I tend to hold my emotions deep within in order to present the perfect self to others. The emotions however, brew within and eventually erupt in the form of melodies. Whether it’s in a minor key to express sadness or a major key to express happiness and hopefulness, once I start an idea I tend to let my intuition take over before editing too much. Since day one of me producing my own music. I’ve always stood by the mantra of painting pictures through music. Every single song I’ve put out paints a different picture. For instance, my first single “L.O.V.E” paints a scene of a young girl in the forest running searching for the one person she loves. Once I start writing a song, I tend to have a general scene in mind and I would always put myself in that scenery and just imagine what type of instruments I would hear if I’m there. Whether it’s the guitar that provides tension or the elongated leads that expresses the idea of “letting go.”
I feel that I’m inspired by a lot of other artists not just the different sounds they use. But also how they could narrate a story with one song. I aim to tell stories with my music. I hope to create melodies that will sit deep in my audiences’ minds. And down to earth lyrics that people can resonate with. Most importantly, I want my audience to feel how I felt when writing these songs and to realize that they’ve had similar experiences of which they felt similar emotions. For instance, in my upcoming single “By My Side,” the melody sets the scene of the ocean waves pushing towards the beach while the lyrics narrates the emotions of a loving couple missing each other but refuses to let go. This combination was created based off of me missing this girl I liked a lot and me and her always talking about settling down in Malibu. I hope my audience will love this track and share it with the ones they love.
Eventually I would like to inspire others to create. And to share their emotions and their stories through their music as well.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, I’m always happy when people enjoy my productions. No matter if it’s the music I make or the shows I perform at. As a content creator I want to stand out by creating contents that people resonate with. Lyrics that people would sing along to and melodies that will sit deeply in people’s memories. I also want to inspire more people to create music.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I would love to get into NFTs. I think this specific NFT creator website called Royal.io is creating something special by releasing music as an NFT. I would love to work with them and see how it goes.
