We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cacho. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cacho below.
Alright, Cacho thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a client that you appreciate them?
For me, making my clients feel seen, understood and heard is the most important aspect of my job. I’ve always had the strong idea that once you’re getting a tattoo is really important the experience you go through, because that experience is going to be heavily attached to the tattoo you’re wearing, if you get to have a great moment, you’re gonna look at your tattoo, and be like “ I remember having a great time, I remember feeling comfortable and happy while getting this tattoo, and that my tattoo artist understood and heard what I wanted to get” instead of looking at your tattoo and being like “he just did what he wanted never cared about my thoughts and I hate this thing”. So it’s a 50/50 always for me between creating pristine work and making my clients feel comfortable throughout the experience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ignacio Suarez (aka Cacho), I’m Based in Los Angeles, and I specialized in single needle and fine line tattoos.
I’ve been Passionate about drawing since childhood, my artistic journey took me through various forms of art, from oil painting to digital art and animation. However, it was tattooing that captured my heart once I learned the craft and seeing the profound impact it can have on people’s lives. I’ve realized that tattoos were more than just drawings on the body; they held significant meaning and emotional value for many individuals.
Since I started my journey in the tattoo industry I’ve been focused on mastering the style of single needle, I’ve become a specialist and that has helped me to offer better work each day, because I’m fully focused on one single style and it’s complexity, focused on the longevity of it and how my work will stay on top of all the rest.
Although I’m deeply committed to tattooing, I’m not limited to one form of expression. As an artist and a creative soul, I love yo explore various avenues, including architecture, photography, animation, illustration, and clothing design. I believe that embracing other art forms can always have a positive impact in my skills and artistic identity, enriching my craft as a tattoo artist.
Every day I feel honored that my clients trust me to create permanent art on their skin, knowing the profound significance it holds for them. With each piece I create and each client I works with, I continue to grow as both an artist and a person.
My philosophy is simple but profound: follow your true passions and do what brings you genuine happiness always being kind and committed.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My clients. Again, for me it’s so important to put all the attention into them because I know that the most important element of my craft are the people I work with, and I know it’s a dilemma out there because as an artist you have ego, and you always want to feel that your art is perfect as it is and you want yo hear no one about telling you the opposite… but when you become a tattoo artist, that ego has to be left behind, your canvas is no longer a flat surface that can talk you back telling you that the paint stoke you did on it sucks, this is a living canvas you’re gonna be working with, this canvas has needs, feels, hurst it has ideas of how it want their tattoo to be. It’s a mutual agreement and tattoos are a team work, I’ve learned that’s the best way to achieve the best result with tattoos by acting as a team work. And once your clients feel that attention you’ve put in the work and on them, they go out and they not only say they got a great work, but also a great experience. And living by that idea is what has helped me to build a reputation and be blessed by the work I do.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I can feel proud to say that I have a strong work ethic, around my clients, around my social media, and in the way I put my self out to the world. I walk the talk, clients/tattoos/marketing it all connects and I put the respect that each of this deserves. I don’t take lightly any of it and I put A LOT of attention into small details so that the market and anyone out there that can come across my work feels that they are talking with a professional in every aspect.
