We recently connected with C.V.M. and have shared our conversation below.
C.V.M. , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
1. Honestly, I wish I had started creating at the level I do now when I was much younger. I can only image how far I’d be but I don’t regret the path I took to get here. Having a musically inclined family growing up, made it inevitable that I would develop an interest in music. However, it wasn’t until I joined the middle school choir in the sixth grade that I realized I wanted to make a career out of it. That encounter changed my life and truly sparked my love for music and the trade. Attending a Fine Arts High School, helped me hone in on my abilities and gain the necessary exposure to the field. I feel that there were certain life experiences that I had to go through to get me where I am now. I believe, that if I had started earlier, I wouldn’t be the creative that I am today. Looking back on my life, if I had a choice, I would choose later.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
4. I am an artist that comes from a super creative family, where you either know how to play an instrument, produce, sing, dance or rap. Of course with me, the apple didn’t fall to far from the tree. Singing was something that came easy but songwriting was a process that I had to work at. I feel, that what sets me apart from others, is that I stay true to my sound and create the music that I love. My resilience throughout the years is something that I’m most proud of, because being a creative isn’t easy and often times, there are more bad days than good. However, I’m still here and creating the music that my supporters love. One thing I want my supporters to know, is that i’m so grateful for all the love and support throughout my career. They make the hard days worth it and they are the reason I will continue to put my all into my craft. The music is only getting better and i’m excited for what’s to come in the future.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative, is the opportunity to relate to and connect with others through my music. It means the world to me when my supporters tell me how much my music means to them and how it helps them. Writing and recording is a form of therapy for me, and I typically write about my life experiences and it confirms that people are able to experience what I experience in my creative process. As a creator, this road sometimes involves more sacrifice than reward, but the sacrifices make it worth it.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
The one thing I think non-creatives struggle to understand about my journey as a creative, is what it means to me and the passion I have behind it. Growing up I’ve dealt with people telling me that music wasn’t a real career and that it’s something that I should make a hobby. People also would say, that music is a hard industry to get into and that everyone wants to be an artist. Once I knew music was what I wanted to do, there was no changing my mind about it. I understood that I needed to be fully committed and passionate about my journey. I knew that not everyone is going to see or understand the vision and that’s totally okay. Sometimes people project their fears on to you without realizing and that’s sometimes hard. This can often times come from the people you love. Had I listened to the opinions of others, I wouldn’t be doing this interview and I wouldn’t be the creative I am today. As a creative you have to believe in your dream so hard, that you become boarder line delusional to others who may not understand. Trust your process and understand that you are one of one. Always remember, that what’s for you will always and ONLY be for you.
