Absolutely, I’ve been fortunate to earn a full-time living from my creative work, but it wasn’t an overnight success. When I founded The Pine Cone Group, I had a vision of blending innovative design with strategic thinking to help brands tell their stories. However, the journey to making this a sustainable, full-time career was filled with challenges and learning experiences.
In the beginning, it wasn’t a full-time gig. Like many in the creative industry, I juggled multiple freelance projects, often working late nights and weekends to build a portfolio and a client base. The first major step was securing a few steady clients who believed in our vision and trusted us with their brands. This stability allowed us to focus on delivering high-quality work and building a reputation for excellence.
A significant milestone was when we landed our first large-scale project with a well-known brand. This not only provided a financial boost but also served as a validation of our capabilities and opened doors to more high-profile opportunities. We reinvested the earnings into the business, hiring talented designers and expanding our service offerings.
Networking and building relationships were crucial throughout this journey. Attending industry events, engaging with the creative community, and consistently showcasing our work on various platforms helped in gaining visibility and attracting new clients.
Reflecting on the journey, I believe there are a few things I could have done to speed up the process. Ultimately, it’s about perseverance, continuous learning, and staying true to your creative vision. The path to a full-time career in creative work is rarely linear, but each challenge and milestone contributes to your growth and success. Today, The Pine Cone Group thrives because of the dedication and passion that fueled its early days, and I wouldn’t trade that journey for anything.

Never assume they can’t afford it.. Never ever drop your prices because of a conceived notion of the client. If they want it, they will get it.

The goal that wakes me up everyday is the idea that each day with client needs is different from the previous day. Creative Design and Strategy is the best vocation ever, never a dull moment.
