We caught up with the brilliant and insightful C.R.U.S.H YourPoet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
C.R.U.S.H, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I am currently 36 years old. I didn’t get into poetry until I was 33; what felt like a very late start considering most poets I came across had been writing for 15-20 years. However poetry was not ever something I saw myself doing in this way. I began going to poetry events as self date night during a healing process. So, in that sense it came along when it was supposed to.
Had I gotten into poetry and performing when I was younger, I’m sure the path would have been much different.
I am grateful to have stepped into this lifestyle in a certain state of maturity and stability. I wouldn’t change a thing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is C.R.U.S.H, which stands for Creating.Realities.Using.Spiritual.Hands.
I am a Nationally Ranked Spoken Word Artist whose main focus is to use poetry as a healing tool as well as an education mechanism. My poetry is meant to make people think outside the box, take accountability, as well as create a safe space for connection and healing.
My 3 main mottos are:
1. DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE
2. KEEP YOUR PROMISES TO YOURSELF
3. “Sexuality is Fluid, SWALLOW IT” ©️
My brand and products are all a reflection of my belief system.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
1. The Five Levels of Attachment by Don Miguel Ruiz Jr
2. The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
3. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
4. Jeen-Yus the Kanye West documentary
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me is the connection I am able to make with people. When I get off stage, and someone is crying because my poem touched them, or because they are going through something similar and really needed to hear what I had to say. The loving and supportive energy that follows with those people I connect with. And hearing that what I am doing is helping people in their everyday lives, is so humbling and important to me.
