We were lucky to catch up with C.Mack recently and have shared our conversation below.
C.Mack , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking risks, have truly been embedded in my DNA. From driving across country to California, (2011) with my son who was just one years old at the time. To packing up all my belongings 9 years ago to move to “Military City USA”; San Antonio, TX (2014). I was giving the opportunity to create the life I wanted, after years of growing up in Fayetteville, NC – It was time to make a change, and make the move of a lifetime. After packing up my apartment in faith for a few months here and there, and making the necessary arrangements. My mother drove my son and I, to the Raleigh-Durham Airport the next morning. I was nervous, of course. But I knew deep down I was making the best decision for my son and I. I had a vision for my life, but I was unaware of the path and direction I needed to follow to ultimately get me where I desired to be. This risk, was life changing, and I knew I couldn’t turn back. I had to push through the challenges, gather information from local resources, occupy the various occupations, that I had to, to provide and build a life in unmarked territory. Being a single mom, traveling across the country, and starting over can be traumatic and scary for most. But having the determination to work hard, and chase the life you want. Makes the struggles, and setbacks worth it. Now, fast forward- Today, my son (who is now a teenager) we’re thriving because I never gave up on me. I believed in my capabilities, and the vision I had for my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In 2003, I joined a marketing team at the local radio station back home in North Carolina. I never knew where it would take me in the long run. From promoting concerts, block parties, remotes, producing and writing commercial ads. I fell in love with the grind and hustle of the radio industry. At 15 years old, the program director saw my determination, and potential and presented me the opportunity of creating my own show over the airwaves. Over 20+ yrs of experience as a radio personality, and voice over artist. For my clients, I provide a professional sound that brings their product to life. Whether, you own a Day Spa, or coordinating a concert. My voiceover skills are versatile. What sets me apart is the head start that was given to me in the radio industry. I was able to build my voice and skills over time, and radio has trained me to use my craft in other industries. My passion for media, is deeply embedded, and I look forward to serving this beautiful city. There are so many things I’m proud of. From moving across the country on my own and building a new life, becoming a mother, and creating my podcast platform. After a much needed hiatus from media, on October 3, 2020 I decided to launch ‘Peeling Off The Layers’ it was time to share my own personal experiences to the public, and shine light on community leaders that are making a difference in their communities. ‘Peeling Off The Layers’ Podcast is a safe space to embrace your “new skin” and love what makes you uniquely one of one. ‘Peeling Off The Layers’ shines light on mental health, self care, local events, community influencers and creatives locally and internationally.
My brand’s focus is to impact the world, spread positivity, inspiration, promote resiliency while overcoming adversity, love and compassion.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect as a creative would be inspiring, and impacting the lives that encounter me. There’s a sense of freedom that I have when I create. Whether it’s inspirational content, a blog post, or uploading a new podcast episode. I know deep down that I’m impacting the lives that are going to take the time to listen, and read my material or story. Being a creative is a true art form. We were all created to utilize or gifts, so giving back the best way I know how is sharing my gift with the world. Dr. Martin Luther King once said. ” Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”
As a creative, that’s what I ask myself. It’s important to never forget your WHY. Because it’s not about me, it’s about the people.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe what society can do to support a thriving creative ecosystem, is to continue to make room for us. Create events that are geared for us to create and network. Create a month or a week that celebrates the “Creative” as a whole. I’m confident that if we all collaborate together, it will ignite a major shift in the world.
