We recently connected with C.L. Suggs and have shared our conversation below.
C.L. , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first dollar in my business was special because it came from the very first book I had written. In 2020, I published the book “Unlocking Mysteries in the Kingdom”, and the first client was someone that had heard of the book and was willing to purchase it. Matter of fact she DM me regarding how she was able to purchase because the name really meant a lot to understanding the mysteries of heaven. She didn’t know me personally but saw my post from someone on her page.
That first dollar gave me confidence in my God-given vision, but I really didn’t have time to slow down to celebrate: “It was also just the first dollar and first book, and I had many more dollars and many more books that I was hoping to finish.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
The main business Change Requires Change (CRC) LLC is a minority founded and woman-led company that provides essential business and community services. Three co-founders came together and decided to make our dreams a reality when we saw essential services that were lacking in our communities and decided to create a company to meet those needs. We are all motivated by being servant leaders who are committed to using our skills, gifts, and talents to make an impact in our communities. Our services are available in-person and virtually so we are able to serve and provide our services locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. We make it happen daily by keeping our mission at the forefront of everything we do. We know that through this collaboration of services, we will help others to have essential needs met as well as provide professional services that will make a long-term impact on businesses and our communities.
CRC was founded on the belief that true transformation comes from within. Carlesha (CL), Kendra and Shameka, the founders of CRC, have been friends since high school for over 27 years. We each had a vision to do more, so we made a collaborative decision to launch out in the deep and trust God with our God-given vision. We wanted to be the voices that gave back to our communities. We understand that a lot of people go through so many different challenges and we too, endured some of those same challenges. Yet, we decided to change the trajectory of our lives by changing how we think and taking the necessary actions for a better life. We realized through this transformation we are better prepared to help and empower others. We see ourselves as a mental representation of a butterfly that is yet still evolving. Not to think of ourselves as better than anyone, but we have evolved from past situations.
We published our first book regarding this change called Real Evolution Heals ( I had to become her, to realize, I wasn’t her). Evolution is the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations. The theory of evolution is based on the idea that all species are related and gradually change over time. Growing up from childhood to adulthood, we each can attest that we took some pretty dangerous risks; some that were costly, detrimental, and conditional. Nevertheless, they were still risks, but thankful to God, He brought us out and we evolved and positioned ourselves to help empower future generations. In life, we will only learn by trial and error or by a mentor. The same help we desired as a child, we decided to become that help for others. We are committed to be the provider of choice for anyone in need of community-based services. Through evidence-based practices and individualized services, we encourage the individuals we serve to make positive choices that contribute to changing lives.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Often people use the word boss interchangeably with leadership, but the two are entirely different. I never wanted to be a boss or lord over people. A boss has definitely no interest in people development; as a leader I’m interested in seeing the team grow and develop. I never stand to take any credit but see credit and honor being distributed to those who earned it. One advice I could give in managing a team is never instill fear in those who are building with you. Yet, as a true leader inspire enthusiasm.
As I became a leader in managing the team, I’ve learned to value each one of them, and what they bring to the table. Maintaining high morale is knowing that remarkable things can be accomplished when outstanding encouragement and respect exists throughout the entire organization. I’ve made a commitment to create positive change towards a more dynamic, forward-thinking, inclusive and sustainable team as well as world.
