We were lucky to catch up with Byrd Reaves recently and have shared our conversation below.

Byrd, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?

The first time I went viral on Tiktok it was a great feeling I had earned over $300 I know you probably saying girl that ain’t nothing, but to me it was something because all I did was post a video of me and my dog

Byrd, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I have always been the type to want to make people laugh and through social media you can do that it really all started one day when I gave my dog a piece of bread through the fence and I pretended like it was my neighbors dog and we blew up on Tiktok immediately after it was a love/hate relationship with viewers. When I create content I’m looking to service people with laughs I don’t really have a niche I’m all over the place which sets me apart one day I’m doing a skit, then im recreating food ideas and doing food reviews I’m most proud of me I haven’t accomplished a lot yet but I will very soon

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

At this very moment watching other black creators become successful off of creating content is what drives me seeing people give their testimonies on how they quit their jobs to pursue their dreams and then become successful and work for themselves while doing what they love will always be what motivates me , also my kids striving to teach them to not to work for anyone but I can’t preach what I don’t practice

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn that you can’t stay viral forever and the backstory for that is I’m not that viral right now and I have to work on building myself back up
