Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Butterfly Feels. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Butterfly, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve known music was my magic all my life. No matter what I do professionally, I always come back to music. I grew up in a military family; so, we moved around a lot growing up. Being from everywhere and nowhere can be challenging and reduces the basic commonalities you share with other people. I’ve always felt most understood and most connected to people through music. Whether we’re vibin’ to a favorite record we share or I’m singing a song I love or a song I wrote, I feel most seen and express myself most clearly through music. I’ve been writing and singing all my life. The artists that made me feel most inspired were Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Destiney’s Child, Aaliyah, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Rihanna, and so many more great artists from the 90s and 00s. My absolute favorites are more R&B or Hip Hop and R&B, but I love music and artists from all genres. A lot of my music can blend well into all genres. I’m excited to show more of that in the future!
Butterfly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
“Butterflies are meant to live light and free.” That’s my motto. When you listen to Butterfly Feels music, I want you to feel light and free. I make music to help people escape and find their magic. I make music to encourage people to chase all the parts of life that give them butterflies. Our time here is too short to be living inauthentically, and all the butterfly feelings we get on our journey can help guide us to our chosen paths.
“Choose Us” is the first single I released in April of 2020. Since then, I’ve released 13 singles, 1 EP, 13 official music videos, and 5 collabs to date with plenty more to come. I have so many songs in my head waiting to be written on paper, so many songs waiting to be recorded, and so many songs recorded and waiting to be released. I’m in a really good place to take my time with my craft and release with intention.
My latest projects are debut EP Butterfly Summer and singles “Offline (M.R.L.)”, “Leavin'” and “Quit That Job”. Butterfly Summer is 17 minutes of bliss. I wrote each song to capture a different aspect of summer, the most invigorating time of year. I want people to be able to take that summer rush with them everywhere they go, and Butterfly Summer is the perfect summer capsule you can pop whenever. Every song on Butterfly Summer is powerful enough to be a single release. Instead of picking just one or two to highlight, I’m giving each track it’s single moment with an official music video release. So far, I’ve released the singles and visuals for “Prove It”, “Top Down” and “Leavin'”; I have two more to go with “Party” and “Butterflies” coming soon to wrap up the Butterfly Summer series! Subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss a music video premiere.
“Offline (M.R.L.)” is inspired by the importance of focusing on your mental health and not defining your life by social media standards. We can all get so easily caught up in the process of documenting and sharing everything we experience, but everything isn’t meant for social media or for sharing for all of us. Knowing your boundaries and when you need to log off and have some unplugged time is really important. Knowing that someone’s social media page doesn’t encapsulate their whole life is really important. You never know what people can be dealing with no matter how peachy their page is. I wanted people to have a song they can go to when they’re not having that baddie moment they want to post, a song they can go to when they need a break from all these algorithms that put us in boxes.
“Quit That Job” is about following your heart when it comes to your life’s purpose. No dream is too big or too small. We’re all meant to make an impact on this world in our own way. At a young age, many of us are pressured to take certain paths in life, and I want people to know that the best path for them to take is the one they feel most inspired by. No one was put here to live a dull and boring life. “Quit That Job” is your reminder to go for whatever is calling your name; life is too short to wait any longer. Quit all the people, places, and things holding you back. The universe will reward you every single time!
If you’re on a journey of passion or self discovery, come follow me! Let’s amplify your good vibes and keep you vibrating high.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The best part of being an artist is impacting the entire world. I have fans in 100+ countries, and I receive personal messages about how my music is touching them every single day. My fans inspire me as much as I inspire them. They remind me that I’m on my way while I’m reminding them that they’re on their way. I love that reciprocating energy. My music is love, and to share that love with others is magical.
Have you ever had to pivot?
As a true butterfly, I fly free. Starting this music journey, I’ve focused on more of a Hip Hop, R&B, and Pop sound. Don’t worry, I’m not abandoning that. I just want to branch out and have some fun with other genres. I love all music. I can write in all genres. So, I’m ready to expand my reach and sound. I won’t give too much of my future plans away, but just know I plan to keep you at the edge of your seat for the next release always!
Shoutout to my partner in crime, artist, producer, engineer, photographer, and videographer NOR KIN4LIFE!
