We were lucky to catch up with Burnitta Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Burnitta , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
When it comes to asking friends and family to support your business, it’s a delicate balance. It’s appropriate to share your passion and invite them to be a part of your journey, but it’s important to respect their boundaries and not pressure them. Personally, I believe in transparent communication, explaining your business vision, and expressing how their support would mean a lot.
In terms of drawing the line, it’s crucial to gauge their interest and willingness rather than insisting on support. Everyone has different capacities and priorities. Striking a balance between promoting your venture and understanding their circumstances is key.
I’ve learned that sometimes, your most significant support may indeed come from strangers initially. This doesn’t diminish the value of friends and family, but rather highlights that others, unencumbered by personal relationships, might see the potential of your venture more objectively.
One lesson that influenced my perspective is realizing that not everyone will share your vision, and that’s okay. God granted you the vision, not them. Therefore, the focus should be on attracting those who resonate with your services and how you solve their problems.
In the realm of entrepreneurship, one must understand that not everyone, even close connections, will necessarily be your immediate patrons. It’s about staying focused on your mission, attracting those who genuinely need your offerings, and building a supportive community, even if it starts with strangers who appreciate your vision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a multifaceted individual, balancing roles as a wife, mother, armor bearer, executive assistant to a pastor, and corporate accountant. Despite my diverse responsibilities, I discovered a passion for sweet treats coordination during the challenging times of the COVID era.
Being self-taught, I found solace and purpose in crafting delightful sweets. This venture was not just a business but a divine calling, a blessing bestowed upon me during a period of self-reflection. Recognizing my purpose, I embraced the opportunity to share my light in a chaotic world.
KBz Sweet Treatz emerged not only from a love for baking and artistry but also from a desire to infuse each treat with a sprinkle of love. I believe that baking isn’t just a process; it’s an art of pouring heart and soul into every creation. As people indulge in my treats, they experience the love embedded in each bite.
Initially, my business focused on small orders, but it organically evolved into event dessert coordination after two years. Starting with cookies, the offerings now span a variety, including cheesecake jars, Bundt cakes, dipped treats, and more. At KBz Sweet Treatz, we believe there’s no limit to the creative and love-filled possibilities in crafting delectable treats for our clients.
What sets us apart is our commitment to infusing creativity and love into every creation. I’m proud of the journey from a small orders business to a comprehensive event dessert coordination service. Our brand stands for more than just treats; it symbolizes a fusion of art, passion, and the joy of sharing love, one bite at a time. I want potential clients to know that KBz Sweet Treatz isn’t just a business—it’s a heartfelt experience, and we’re here to create memorable moments through our delightful creations.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building my reputation within the market has been a journey rooted in seeking God first in every aspect of my business. This spiritual foundation has provided guidance and strength, reflecting in the authenticity and passion infused into each sweet treat.
Transparency has played a crucial role as well. Being open with my community about the varying seasons in the industry has fostered trust and understanding. Clients appreciate the honesty, knowing that KBz Sweet Treatz is a genuine and evolving brand.
Our commitment to excellence has made us a go-to for clients seeking special treats for their most memorable life moments. Whether it’s a celebration or a comforting indulgence, KBz Sweet Treatz is synonymous with quality, creativity, and the love we pour into each creation.
Moreover, we take pride in being there for our clients during their most challenging times. We’ve had the privilege of creating treats for memorial services, offering a small but meaningful source of comfort during a stressful period of loss. It’s these moments of support and understanding that truly define our brand and contribute to the trust our clients place in us. Through faith, transparency, and a compassionate approach, KBz Sweet Treatz has become not just a dessert provider but a reliable companion during life’s various seasons.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the early stages of my business journey, resilience became a defining trait. Starting KBz Sweet Treatz, I faced a formidable challenge when my initial attempts to register the business with the state were met with rejection three times. Each denial brought its share of disappointment and frustration.
Rather than submit to setbacks, I approached it as a valuable learning process. Recognizing the need for guidance, I sought out a mentor and delved into extensive research, determined to understand the intricacies of starting a business. The journey demanded diligence – taking meticulous notes, conducting thorough research, and actively applying newfound knowledge to build and strengthen my brand.
Ultimately, my persistence paid off when the state approved my business. This experience became a cornerstone of resilience in my entrepreneurial journey, teaching me the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and the transformative power of learning from challenges. It’s a story that underscores the journey’s hardships but also highlights the unwavering determination that has shaped KBz Sweet Treatz into what it is today.
