Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Burger the Monster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Burger, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I think one challenge that I face is trying to convince people that my videos can be funny not just for children but for adults as well. A lot of individuals automatically assume that because I am a fluffy monster, I only know how to entertain children. And sure, I do like to perform for kids. But the awesome truth is that I love to entertain people of ALL ages!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is Burger… you know like a “hamburger?” Only without the “ham,” because… well… I’m not a pig. And I love to make people smile through the power of silliness!
My career started in 2017, when I began performing with the Puppet Shakespeare Players in NYC. As a “player,” I appeared Off-Off-Broadway in productions of Puppet Macbeth, Puppet Romeo & Juliet, Puppet Hamlet, and Puppet Julius Caesar. While the group is no longer around, I am grateful for the awesome memories and wonderful friends that I made.
Fast-forward to 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic is here and we are all in lockdown. I knew that I needed to continue to bring joy and laughter to the world somehow. But how? The answer was TikTok.
With the help of my buddy Spencer, I joined TikTok in March 2020. Since then, I have gained over 10.5K followers, and two of my videos have gone viral. Thanks to this amazing platform, my work has been shared by brands and celebrities such as WWE and Singer-Songwriter Melissa Etheridge.
It’s been a truly exciting journey full of lots of delicious sandwiches.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To bring joy to others! Whether I’m on camera or in front of a live audience, I am happiest when making people laugh.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
“Never leave your plate empty.”
About two years ago, I ate waaaaay too many sandwiches (my favorite food) at suppertime and had a HUGE tummy ache for most of the following week.
I agree that wasting food isn’t a good idea. But it’s also not smart to overeat. As my daddy said to me, “Burger, don’t have a field day, son!” Daddy was definitely right.
With that being said, I still LOVE sandwiches!
