We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Buntu Hlotywa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Buntu, thanks for joining us today. One thing we always find fascinating is how differently entrepreneurs think about revenue growth and cost reductions – both can be powerful ways to improve profitability. What do you spend more of your time and energy on?
We are well aware that cost control is an important aspect of making profit. It is one of our focal points and we try by all means to keep profits in tact. One of the ways we achieve that is through having an in-house staff in every necessary department instead of having to outsource hefty external workforce. We also make it a point not to spend more than necessary on advertising and marketing and we try by all means to narrow down customer acquisition costs to ensure profitability.

Buntu, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The company started out as a hobby and a means of multiplying money. Whenever I had a few extra dollars lying around I would lend out to my friends and family. My mother Bongiwe Gloria Hlotywa would bring in borrowers from her friend circle, my friends from varsity increased my clientele through word of mouth. The idea to turn the hobby into a company came when I received an influx of borrowers, more than I could cater for. That was when I took the profits and registered the company with all relevant authorities, a few months down the line I was able to secure early stage investors in exchange for equity to position the company for further growth and sustainability.
The company grew into a self sustaining entity that provides financial loans to qualifying individuals and start-up businesses. Seamless access to financial assistance for many individuals and start-up business owners has always seemed to be an issue, one that I’ve experienced myself hence we believe that we are solving the problem of strife access to financial assistance by bridging the gap. We also cater for individuals who wouldn’t be able to get assistance from traditional institutions such as banks, furthering our commitment to solution based services.
I believe that what sets us apart is our realization that our clients mean everything to us. We treat out clients and potential clients with the utmost level of excellence, integrity and we always deliver quality customer service and if there’s one thing that we would like to make clear about our brand is that our clients are of the utmost importance, we put our clients’ needs above all else and we always treat our clients like family.
What we are most proud of is our growth factor. How far we’ve come and our evolution as a company and the company culture we’ve established. There have been many challenges but we were steadfast amidst those challenges and we preserved and we will continue doing so.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Since our clients are everything to us, we don’t just seek to actively get and maintain clients, but we seek to create a family. We value our clients above everything and creating customer loyalty is a byproduct of our continuous dedication to delivering excellent customer service and putting our clients first. We showcase our appreciation to our family of clients through various customer loyalty building methods, such as offering tailor made rewards and incentives as a means of showing appreciation and fostering healthy relationships with our clients, showcasing our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for choosing us as their business of choice.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our main source of clients has been through our social media platforms and word of mouth and we plan on investing more on these growth drivers for the company.
