We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bunna Nova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bunna below.
Hi Bunna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
“Ever since she could pick up a pencil”, my mom always says, and I think she’s right. I can’t remember a time when I *wasn’t* making something. For example, when I was an elementary kid I sat my dad down on the living room couch and explained to him my game plan: that I was going to go to an art college and draw for the rest of my life. By middle school I had a plethora of original characters under my belt, and I was so obsessed with “the orange box” that I wanted to be an artist for Valve, furthering my pursuit for an art education. By sophomore year of highschool, I got accepted into college early and built a multimedia portfolio in-between classes.
A little over two years later and that portfolio got me into a prestigious career-based art college, and I fulfilled that promise to my dad at age 21 with a bachelor’s degree in multimedia science and film.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Ash, and go by BunnaNova online. I have an art account as well under the name CafePeisko. Until recently, my revenue exclusively came from cosplay and building an online presence. Now my job is to design, model, rig and finalize characters for 3D programs like Unity, Vseeface, and VRchat! I’m hoping to open up a stationary store soon, and also plan to vend with my husband at farmers markets to sell our chicken eggs and wood crafts. I also have videos lined up for my YouTube channel, which include stream highlights and crafting vlogs!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
This video from Corridor validated a lot of what I went through during my first contract job. I had an excellent mentor who taught me a lot of the points mentioned, and seeing this video after completing said job proved to me that I was going in the right direction.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“Pursue what makes the most money” That alone cost me the education I would have preferred in my second year of college.
In the first year, you are taught at least one class for every specified skill they offer as a bachelor’s degree. There was Web, Film, and 3D. I was already a brain-fried depressed student at this point so when our Web professor took a session to roast the other two professions, it was unfortunately easy to persuade me. His motive obviously was to bring more people into Web, but I already knew coding was gonna make me have grey hairs before 25, so that was a no-go. He roasted 3D the most however (the skill set I originally went in for) so I settled for Film.
Had I not been so scared to be a starving artist, I would have chosen my true passion. I’d be much further in the field I work in now as well.
