We recently connected with Bulletproof and have shared our conversation below.
Bulletproof, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
It started when I was 13 or 14. Me and sum of my childhood friends I grew up with would sit outside and play spades, dominos or Tunk and freestyle all day because we weren’t allowed inside, you know how that is. So, we would find things to do all the time but one thing we did the most was freestyling and writing songs hoping to get big one day. They used to tell me that I should take it more seriously and try and link up and do shows with someone that would listen to my music. So, around 2005 I met one of my closest friends QD’Up aka Shawn Quigley at Pockets in Tallahassee Fl, we chopped it up about making music and what we had been doing with our music. He had a lot of experience in writing, mixing and even mastering, we clicked almost instantly. We ended up writing songs and collabs thru out my time in college until he moved to Tennessee. We have continued to do music, but it has made things harder to do music and make time to collab being long distance. I was doing shows at Club Atmosphere and Down Under and party’s everywhere we could. So, Fast forward a few years I continued to write and hope for a shot. 5 years ago, I made a promise to me and my family I was going all in, all or nothing so I did just that pushing my music on Distro kid, Soundcloud, ReverbNation, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. I have my own web page www.Bulletprooflimitless.com. and the past few years I did open mics and showcases all over places like Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Tampa, Atlanta and Tennessee I’ve met numerous people thru out that have helped me along the way… QD’Up, Rodger Mcdowell with Rodger Dat beats Abasi Ogun and Ogun Music Group, Pete Rittman and GuerillaNation, Rel with Traqhouse Studios, Umbravo aka Chizzle, Adam Allen with Phi Entertainment, Lady C and Dr Archie with Embark Distribution, BMoss and Moss fest Entertainment also Nino and Presidental Worthy with Rap Analytics with so many more that have helped pave my way to being the artist I am today I want to tell them Thank you.
If only I would have known more about the music side back, then with what I know now I would have defiantly push harder in the beginning and recorded more. I would have tried to get into a studio and record demos and would have copy righted everything I would have invested more money on me as an artist. I also would have pushed myself and my music way more thru networking anyway I could. It was very important to artist like me to have social media platform’s that has really helped artist like me get our music further and to more people. Most importantly stay true to yourself in your music don’t copy others, try and always make your own lane.
Things I’ve learned that have taken me further than you would think would be being humble, quick witted, being able to hear, write and perform my own songs, being prompt, and respectful to others craft, and of course social media platforms as well as music platforms everywhere.
Along the way Money, Transportation, Fan Support, Deaths close to you and no time after work are always going to be obstacle’s we are all trying to overcome, defiantly when you’re someone that does music it makes things harder to prioritize and commit to something with no money revenue unless u go viral or pop. But keep pushing nothing easy is worth being obtained and anything hard will always be more rewarding when obtained. So always keep pushing to do better and create your own path in the industry.

Bruce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m 38 and let me start by saying age is nothing but a number, I’ve been doing music for over 20 years starting back in grade school. I have always had a passion for music hip-hop, rap, r&b are my favorite genres but don’t get me wrong I like other music to, but hip hop stood out more for me because I could relate to it more to my life and things I was going thru.
I’ve loved making music I just really didn’t start pushing my music till 5 years ago, now I have my own web page www.Bulletprooflimitless.com I have traveled and performed my music in FL, TN, GA, and I have my own music pages on YouTube, Spotify and more. I am always down to interact with fans and friends, you can reach me on Instagram at Bulletprooflimitless and Facebook at Bruce Hogan, and artist page Bulletproof.
I really just want to provide good relatable music that anyone could listen to and enjoy. I want people to know me as a real straight forward, goal oriented, family oriented and passionate person that is of course a good artist.
My name Bulletproof doesn’t stand for not being able to be shot lol… I am human, but what it stands for is nothing can penetrate you, no matter how many times you get knocked down you get back up, when they say you can’t you show em you can. Bulletproof stands for more than just gun violence it stands for standing up against all the odds, and still surviving
I am willing to perform anywhere as long as it’s in my best interest and yours.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing for me is running into people that have heard your music, they say they love your music and sound, or they say they follow you. It hits home when random people think you could have a chance at making it big time. it’s the most fulfilling seeing someone word for word quote your songs and sing along.

How did you build your audience on social media?
To be honest I’m still building mine it never stops, but the most important thing is being consistent and keeping your fans engaged as much as possible with relatable content or that grabs their attention. Don’t make a regular video, add effects to it and music… also find groups that support your movement and help you push your craft to the next level.
