We were lucky to catch up with Budro Partida recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Budro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
In my nearly 25 years in media production, by far the most meaningful project I’ve worked on to date is my first real feature film titled “Bloody & Bruised: The Untold Story of The Back Room”. It’s a full-length documentary about a famous metal club that existed in Austin, TX for nearly 33 years that helped serve as incubator for up-and-coming acts that would go on to become national headlining bands as well as a second home for all of the dedicated patrons and fans. It’s been in the works for over 3 years now. What I believed would be a great weekend side-project has ballooned into a gargantuan-sized monster of a film. It is far beyond the biggest and most challenging project I’ve ever worked on, but it’s going to be the greatest work I’ve ever done.
Budro , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an Emmy award-winning video producer and award-winning filmmaker from Austin, Texas. I have worked professionally in television and media production for nearly 25 years. My spectrum of work includes award-winning short films and music videos, television commercials, and multiple television series, including “Professor Griffin’s Midnight Theatre” and the Emmy award-winning late night TV series, “Austin After Hours”. I am a 12-time Telly Award winner (including a Silver Telly), and have garnered multiple industry awards throughout my career. My micro-short, “Devastated” won the Platinum Award (beating 375+ other short films) and named Season 6 Winner of the 15 Second Horror Film Challenge Competition in 2020. My 2019 werewolf short, “Bewere”, won “Best Horror Film” at the 2020 Austin Indie Fest, “Best Picture” at the 2020 Demonic Brilliance Film Festival and won “Best Horror Short” at the 2019 San Antonio Horrific Film Fest. I am currently serving as Director and Producer on the feature-length documentary in-production titled “Bloody & Bruised: The Untold Story of The Back Room”. In 2013, I formed my production company, PennyRock Productions LLC.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’ve always said that the final product, whether it be a film or music video or what have you, is obviously important, it’s the bonding and networking that cast and crew form while working together on the project that is the most rewarding. When those folks that put in long hours together continue to be friends and colleagues and respect each other in their field, whether it be photographers or make up artists or cast, that is what I find is the most rewarding aspect of this field. I love knowing that I’ve brought together a family at every production I lead.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
In producing my first feature, it’s been constantly faced with challenges. Mainly, time-wise. It’s an uphill battle to constantly be thinking about shoots, edits, music, casting, and, of course, to be able to fund all those things and still meet a calendar deadline. The amount of work that every one puts in for every one of those items i listed is what keeps me going, because I know they are going to be absolutely thrilled with the final film once they see it.
