We were lucky to catch up with Buc recently and have shared our conversation below.
Buc, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Ive only really ever had one mission, which is helping others. Part of my mission strands its dna all the way back to when I was young. I grew up with a mother who had OCD. This entailed everything being spotless 24/7. Its like we lived in a hotel lobby, “always spotless.” I never really understood why we had the constant chores, in fact I came to loathe them and hated to clean for the longest time. This went on for years and years until the habits were engraved into who I am. I never really understood that I had a knack for cleaning with precision and detail until much later when I entered my young adulthood. I’ve always enjoyed helping friends move, clean and help organize living situations. I still at this point in my life was unaware of why I felt so much joy helping others bring a space to life. Something about turning a chaotic situation into an organized symphony brings peace to my soul. I went on for years volunteering my time to others for pure enjoyment. When Covid hit, I lost my Warehouse job, all hours were cut, with a family to feed. Chaos and stress was on the rise in ours and everyones household. I needed to make money and I needed it fast. After hours of research and thinking I came up with a list of things I was good at. I had only three bulletins. Lifting heavy objects, being nice to people, and cleaning. Not the biggest list so at this point im feeling pretty down in the dumps. After hours of research “based upon my strengths” I was very limited to employment options. Upon researching for any kind of spark of life, I came across a “Junk Removal” page. This was the very first time that I had ever seen or heard of such a job. I didnt think much about it and went to sleep off my stress. In the next coming days I couldnt stop thinking of what I had read about Junk Removal. Ideas were firing on all cylinders. I immediately got to work. After days of research, preparation, and constant hunger for more, Buc’s Junk & Haul Services LLC was born. I STILL at this point in time had not yet realized what I have had. I got to work, and I mean DIRTY jobs. The dirtier the better I always say. I kept working my words, completing my actions with detail, focusing on one goal, 100% customer satisfaction. The more I worked, the happier I became, I kept asking myself why? One day after a job I had completed, I looked at the customer and I saw the same huge smile of satisfaction that I always see except this time it felt different. For the first time in my entire life I KNEW WHAT I HAD. I was given the gift to help others. I felt like I could make a positive influence in someones life and I wanted more. Many of my customers are stuck in a cluttered mind due to unfortunate life circumstances, which usually clutters the living space. When I help a living situation for the better, im not only cleaning the room, im giving them the chance to start over on a fresh slate. A cluttered room leads to a cluttered mind and im a firm believer. Ive only ever had one mission, and thats to help others and I will work my work as long as this world lets me.
Buc, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We take alot of pride in what we do. I make sure anyone who works with my company gets all core values in return. Im a huge believer in treating others the way that you would like to be treated. This stems back to where I grew up. I grew up in a small farm town of 800 ppl in the middle of IOWA. Everyone waved, you knew who your neighbors sisters dog was. A very friendly yet sheltered town. When I left the town into the big world I quickly realized that I wasnt in Kansas anymore Todo. Our company operates as if we were back in my small town. We wave at everyone we know, treat everyone as if you were my neighbor, and always remember to smile. We practice the power of Positivity over here at Buc’s and thats what were most proud of.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
This one still boggles me today. I had zero initial capital whatsoever. I was flat broke. Less than a dollar to my name. I had the one thing more powerful than money, a dream fueled by the fear of failure. Ill say this a million times over, im the most dialed in when my backs against the wall. With a family to feed and a mix of losing my job to covid, I could only do one thing, claw out inch by inch. Through literal tears, blood, sweat, and fear, I made the beginning of a dream come to life.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I would say my ability to help. Im a fond believer in being part of the solution, not the problem. I never really call it a “strategy” but just the way I am. I like being able to “make someones day” by a simple nice gesture or big sometimes. I always do my best to go above and beyond, like my father would always say…”leave it better than you found it” I offer the ” best in the business” experience with “best prices in the business”
