We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bryson Coalt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bryson, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
My ultimate goal is being able to live off music but I haven’t been able to earn a full time living so far. It takes a long time to get to that point and I’m more than determined to get there. There’s some small little things that I definitely would’ve told my younger self that would’ve sped the process up slightly but I’m not upset about the choices I’ve made that has gotten me to where I am now.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Bryson Coalt and I am a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Spokane Washington. I play guitar for the Justyn Preist Band as well as for BRADEN ALL CAPS. I’m also currently recording my first solo album that will be out next year. I’ve been playing guitar professionally for about 4 years but I’ve been playing since I was 6 years old. Music has always been an important of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up I was an extremely shy kid and that kinda made me a target all throughout school. I would go home, play my guitar and listen to music to cope with it and through that, I discovered that I have a passion for creating and making music. I did that almost everyday and that’s the thing I’m the most proud of. I want to make music that’s relatable for everyone.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Putting your time and effort and soul on a project, whether it be a single or album, and finally releasing it out to the world. Art is meant to be shared and if you make something and it makes you feel a certain way, it will probably make someone else feel something as well and to me that’s what’s most rewarding for being an artist.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Most musicians, locally or bigger acts, make most of their income from selling merchandise. So going out to events and shows and buying their stickers, T-shirts, vinyls, is hands down the best way to support artists.
