Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryon Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Bryon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk is always the risk that a person takes on themselves. I’m a dreamer so I always have these ideas that may sound totally outlandish to others. I remember discussing some of my visual ideas with some people and they would just stare at me like I just told them I had a pet Alien named Alphie in my basement! And to some that may really be discouraging right? Well to me, it’s motivation. Nothing is more satisfying than creating a thought, building on it, actually completing it, and then watching others eyes light with the flame that my outlandish ideas sparked.
I’ve only told a few other people this but the reason I named my business “SpaceDive Media” is in reference to when people say they’re taking a leap of faith. Typically, people take leaps of faith in applying for a job, making a big purchase, or asking the person they have a crush on to a dinner date… Which are all awesome things… But I like to take leaps of faith from the highest heights… with monumental outcomes.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I consider myself an introvert with extrovert tendencies. I have a love for film and tv, specifically horror, and it all started when I was just a child. My grandmother used to make me watch X files with her and it horrified me! But at the same time it opened my mind to this unusual side of storytelling. Chris Carter’s brilliant mind to tackle the monsters and myths was just brilliant.
Fast forward into my adult life and one day I just thought “I’d really like to create a film”. And of course I was ahead of myself and didn’t know what a budget was or that it took all of these layers to build just a single scene. But one thing that my years of watching film and tv shows provided was an imagination that’s just undeniable. So once I started writing, the ideas were actually really great but needed a ton of work. I always say that my opportunities are coming faster than I am learning so I’m learning on the spot. This is the BEST way to learn for myself and the people I’ve worked with and the praise that I’ve received from people that I admire has just been life.
For any clients that are seeking any type of visual needs, you are literally hiring a film crew when you hire SpaceDive Media. We excel in what we do because we love what we do and it inspires us. When we deliver that final export we have the confidence in knowing that we delivered something that will exceed your expectations. We also have amazing references!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The hardest lesson I’ve unlearned is being afraid to ask for assistance. I’m very introverted but on top of that I was very stubborn. I would try and do everything myself and while completing my first feature film, I was forced to do a lot of things by myself. That was one of the most humbling things I’ve ever done in my life.
The next project I worked on was a film titled “The Curtain Call Gang”, which is my best to date, and I literally asked for so much it made me uncomfortable. I asked my coworkers if they knew a Western themed site which lead to me asking the owner of the site if we could shoot a short film there. Wildly enough they were elated. Which then led me to asking a film group on Facebook if anyone was interested in shooting a Western Horror (which is not a normal genre clash). Each and every time these amazing people said yes and I’m over here just in awe right? Cause who would’ve thought on just my second big project all of this would be happening? [SpaceDiving]
Well it did and it turned out to be amazing and it all started with my doing something that made me uncomfortable but made me grow and I’m happy I made the change.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
One thing I haven’t mentioned is how I branched off with my business. I’ve been able to produce soundtracks for my films, create merchandise, wrote a children’s book, and we are even excepting clients for commercial work. I’m currently working on rolling out a one stop shop website but while that’s brewing you can check out all my projects here: https://linktr.ee/Spacedivemedia
