We recently connected with Brynne Magaziner and have shared our conversation below.
Brynne, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
One of the biggest trends I’m seeing is a move away from traditional, formal Mitzvah parties toward more relaxed and interactive experiences. Families are skipping the plated dinners in favor of food stations, dessert trucks, and anything that gets people up and connecting. At the same time, they’re planning in a more digital, streamlined way by using online invitations, spreadsheets, and tools to stay organized.
I’ve noticed more parents reaching out because they want to take control of the planning but don’t have time for endless emails and vendor meetings. That’s where hiring a planner or my digital tools come in. They can stay on top of deadlines, budgets, and RSVPs in a way that fits into their lives. It’s empowering for them to feel like they can handle the details without getting overwhelmed.
Of course, it can be a balancing act with older generations who expect more formality, but overall this trend opens the door for more creativity and personalization. People want meaningful, fun celebrations that reflect who they are. And whether I’m planning the event or offering digital tools, I love helping them do just that.

Brynne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Brynne Magaziner, and I own Pop Color Events, a boutique event planning business that specializes in Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. I’ve been planning events professionally for over a decade, and at this point, I’ve helped close to 200 families celebrate this important milestone in a way that feels fun, stylish, and uniquely theirs.
These days, I offer two branches of services. First, I still plan and coordinate Mitzvah events for families in the DC area who want a partner to handle all the details and make the process as smooth as possible. But I also create digital tools, e-books, and online courses for families who are planning on their own but need expert guidance to stay organized and confident.
What sets me apart is how deeply I understand both the emotional and logistical sides of this process. Planning a Mitzvah can feel overwhelming. There are so many decisions, expectations, and cultural nuances. I help parents get clear on what they want, block out the noise, and build a plan that works for their family and budget. I’m not here to push one specific style or approach. I listen, offer options, and help them make decisions that feel right for them.
I’m especially proud of how my work has evolved to serve families beyond the ones I can work with in person. The digital planning tools I’ve created are helping parents across the country feel empowered and organized, even if they’ve never planned an event like this before. I want people to know that you can plan a meaningful, beautiful celebration without crazy stress.
Whether I’m working side-by-side with a family or cheering them on through a spreadsheet or a course, my goal is the same: to make this process easier, less stressful, and more joyful.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been a mix of Facebook groups, SEO, and good old word of mouth. A lot of my clients recommend me in parenting or Mitzvah-focused Facebook groups, which is such a compliment.
I also get a steady stream of traffic from Pinterest and blog posts. I’ve been blogging for years, so when someone Googles something like “Mitzvah timeline” or “how to plan a Bat Mitzvah,” there’s a good chance they’ll land on my site. That’s often the first step before they reach out for help or purchase one of my digital tools.
It’s really a mix of visibility and trust. People might find me through a pin or a post, but what turns them into clients is hearing someone say, “We worked with her, and she was amazing.”

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I’ve always been someone who loves details and logistics, so event planning was a natural fit. I was working at a synagogue handling space rentals, and I saw firsthand how overwhelming the Mitzvah planning process was for so many families. They were trying to juggle vendors, timelines, traditions while working full time and raising kids. I started stepping in to help, informally at first, just because I could see they needed support.
Then one day, a family took a chance on me and asked if I could help plan their child’s Mitzvah. I said yes and I loved it! Not long after that, I lost my job. Instead of panicking, I took it as a sign that it was time to build something of my own. That’s how Pop Color Events started.
From there, it grew one client at a time. Each event brought new referrals and more experience. A big milestone was when I realized I was getting booked two years (or more!) in advance. Another was expanding beyond full-service planning into digital products and online tools, so I could help more families outside my local area.
What started as a side hustle turned into a business I love and one that’s truly sustainable. It’s allowed me to work with amazing families, create helpful resources, and grow something special.
