We recently connected with Brynn Osborn and have shared our conversation below.
Brynn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I am currently making a living as a freelance photographer, which still feels like a dream when I say it out loud. I’ve had a camera in my hands my whole life, got my BFA in Photography from Texas State, and maintained shooting alongside jobs I’ve had. My last 9-5 I had was at a camera store, which fortunately meant I was surrounded by both creative people and an assortment of gear to play with and learn from.
I always have felt drawn to a career in the creative arts, ideally with a camera in hand, but quite honestly it never felt realistic. When I was let go from that camera store job I truly felt lost as I had no intention of diving straight into freelance work. Receiving unemployment money gave me the time and resources to regroup and start to picture the reality of shooting full-time. The longer I went without a desk job the more I never wanted to return to one, so that really pushed me to get serious about my business. I formed my LLC at the start of this year and I’m proud each and every time I get to tell someone what I do for a living.
I don’t regret any of the steps I took to get here because I learned something from each, and they led me where I am today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Howdy, I’m a born and raised Texan and run a small business, Brynn Osborn Media, LLC. I’m a professional photographer specializing in live music, portraits, and events.
I’ve been shooting professionally for nearly 10 years and feel really drawn to documenting people and showcasing the way I see the world. It means a lot to me to be able to freeze moments of time and share that with others to keep forever. I’m proud of myself for the work I’ve put into growing my business and the personal growth that I’ve experienced alongside it.
A big goal I have right now is to go on tour with bands as often as I get the chance. Music photography combines multiple passions of mine and I have so much fun that it’s hard to call it work. I also believe that my personality really lends itself to the lifestyle and logistics of being a tour photographer.
In the future, I see my business continuing to expand as I offer more video and creative direction services to my clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I find it extremely rewarding being able to work for myself doing something that brings me, and others, great joy. Creative work feels centered around positivity and bringing visions to life. To be able to provide that service to people is undoubtedly my favorite aspect.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I felt the freedom to dream about what I wanted to do when I grew up but it always sort of felt like a fantasy being crushed by the reality of what boring job I would have to do instead. There are careers you see on TV, especially creative roles, that seem unattainable. It felt like people who did cool things were different than me and there was some sort of separation between us. I didn’t necessarily feel discouraged, but it felt like there was a gap I couldn’t jump that would keep me from my dreams.
Over the years I’ve realized that we’re essentially all just people who work hard and go after what we want. I learned that you can be a photographer or stylist or movie star, step by step with each advancement in your life. One day you look back and realize you’re doing things that once seemed impossible. I still work on cutting the doubt out of my head and remind myself that I made it this far for a reason.
