We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bryce Hahn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bryce, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving Grand Junction was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. I grew up there, surrounded by friends, family, and memories that shaped who I am. But deep down, I knew staying would hold me back from the opportunities I longed for. The thought of starting over in Denver was terrifying. I had to leave everything comfortable behind, and the fear of the unknown made me hesitate.
Still, I took the risk, packed up, and made the move. At first, it felt like a leap into the dark, but now I realize it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Denver opened doors I didn’t even know existed. The city’s energy pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined, both personally and professionally. Looking back, I wish I had made the jump sooner.
The moral of the story? Sometimes the scariest risks are the ones worth taking. You never know how much life can change for the better unless you step out of your comfort zone. Take the leap—it might just pay off.
Bryce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up in a small town, I was drawn to the beauty industry from a young age. By the time I was 14, I was already working in salons, sweeping floors, and helping wherever I could. I always knew that in some way, I would be a part of the beauty world. There was something about the creativity, the transformation, and the ability to help someone feel their best that resonated with me deeply.
Now, as a lived-in blonding specialist, I’m able to create those transformative experiences every day. I offer lived-in balayage services, giving my clients that perfect blend of effortless color and natural dimension. My approach is about enhancing what’s already beautiful, creating low-maintenance looks that grow out seamlessly. In addition to color, I also provide haircuts tailored to complement each client’s unique style and treatments to keep their hair healthy and radiant.
One of the most defining moments in my career was being selected to be part of a team for New York Fashion Week, working under the iconic Ted Gibson and Jason Backe. It was an experience that challenged and inspired me, pushing me to elevate my craft. What sets me apart from other stylists is not only my technical skills but my commitment to truly understanding each client’s lifestyle and vision. Whether it’s the subtle placement of balayage or finding the perfect cut, my focus is always on delivering customized, lived-in looks that feel just as beautiful on day one as they do weeks later.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Passion, passion is the reason I got into the beauty industry and it goes back to a moment I’ll never forget. I went with my best friend, Ashley, to get her hair done, and as soon as the stylist turned her around to reveal the final result, she started crying. It wasn’t just about the hair—it was the way it made her feel. She finally had the look she’d always wanted, and her confidence was restored in that instant. Watching that transformation, I knew right then that I wanted to be the person who could give that same feeling to my clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a hairstylist is the connection I get to build with my clients. It’s more than just creating beautiful hair—it’s about being there with them through all stages of life. Whether they’re celebrating something exciting or going through a difficult time, I get to share a little piece of their journey. While I may not always have the same experiences, I’m always there to listen, offer support, and make sure they leave my chair feeling seen and confident. And to me that is the most rewarding aspect of being a hairstylist.
