We were lucky to catch up with Bryce Dean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bryce , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Hmmmm risks I’ve taken , well changing my price point was definitely a big risk !! Coming to another city being from Memphis I started off charging $30 but something was speaking to me and telling me I was worth more !! So I just stepped out on faith and went for what I felt I deserve or let’s say I got close to it !! Every since I did my clientele changed in a good way and my finances definitely increased!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Bryce Dean, and I’ve been a professional barber for 22 years. What started as a curiosity quickly turned into a passion and then into a lifelong craft. I got into barbering because I’ve always been drawn to the power of transformation—how a fresh cut can shift not just someone’s look, but their whole energy and confidence. There’s nothing like seeing someone walk out of the shop standing taller than when they came in.
Over the years, I’ve developed a style that blends classic techniques with modern trends. I provide precision cuts, beard grooming, straight razor shaves, and personalized styling, but more than that, I offer an experience—a space where clients feel seen, heard, and taken care of. I believe in building trust, not just giving a haircut. For many people, coming to the barber is as much about therapy and self-care as it is about the fade.
What sets me apart is the intentionality I bring to every appointment. I take time to understand my clients’ lifestyle, their vision, and how they want to feel when they leave the chair. I don’t just cut hair—I help people align their outer appearance with their inner confidence. That’s the real magic in this work.
I’m most proud of the impact I’ve had on people’s self-esteem. Over the years, I’ve had clients tell me that a cut changed their mood, got them through tough times, or helped them walk into an interview or a big moment feeling like their best self. That’s what keeps me passionate after two decades in the game.
If you’re considering working with me or following my brand, know that I’m all about connection, craftsmanship, and care. This isn’t just a job for me—it’s a calling. I’m here to make people feel great, one cut at a time.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Absolutely. One of the biggest moments of resilience in my journey came when I made the decision to leave Memphis and move to Dallas. I had been barbering in Memphis for years, had a steady clientele, and was comfortable—but I knew I needed more. I wanted growth, new challenges, and a fresh start where I could elevate both my skills and my brand.
Moving to Dallas meant leaving behind everything I had built. I had no clients, no network, and no guarantees. It was like starting over from scratch, and to be honest, it was tough. There were days I questioned if I made the right move. But I trusted myself, my craft, and my purpose. I got out there, introduced myself to people, worked hard to prove myself in a new market, and kept showing up with consistency and quality.
That leap of faith turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only did I rebuild my clientele, but I also grew in ways I never would have if I’d stayed in my comfort zone. It taught me that resilience is about betting on yourself—even when it’s scary—and pushing through discomfort to chase something greater. Dallas gave me the platform to elevate my career, and I brought Memphis grit with me every step of the way.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that talent alone is enough. Early in my career, I thought if I was good at cutting hair, everything else would fall into place. I believed the skills would speak for themselves. And while talent is definitely important, I learned the hard way that it’s only part of the equation.
The backstory? When I first started building my brand, I didn’t put much thought into business strategy, customer experience, or personal development. I was focused on fades, tapers, and lineups—but I wasn’t focused on things like time management, marketing, or how I was making clients feel beyond the haircut. I started to notice that while some barbers with less skill were growing faster, I was plateauing. That forced me to take a hard look at what I was missing.
Over time, I realized that being successful in this industry means being a full-package professional. It’s not just about the cut—it’s about how you treat people, how you show up, how you build relationships, and how you grow yourself. I had to unlearn the mindset of “just let the work speak” and learn how to communicate, build a brand, and provide an experience.
That shift changed everything for me—and it’s a lesson I now try to share with younger barbers coming up behind me.
