We were lucky to catch up with Bryant Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bryant, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
My first job was a personal trainer at LA fitness. I had just graduated college in 2015 from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. But I didn’t get that job right out of college. I struggled when I graduated to find a job in my field for about 6 months. My first job out of college I worked in a warehouse building boxes for car parts, literally boxes! With a bachelor degree I worked there for 6 months until I finally got a job at LA fitness. I was so excited to finally be making money and doing what I love, and training and helping people live a better lifestyle! I wanted to be the best personal trainer there was. So once I got hired I love the experience, but the pay was not so great! I couldn’t live off what they paid. So at this time I was depressed, and living with my dad at the time. However, I took it as gaining experience so I worked there for about 7 months and gained a ton of personal training experience. I trained over 20 clients during that time. Once I started to get clients results, particularly helping women lose belly fat, I knew I had something good! After I quit there I worked at 4 different other big gym franchises and wasn’t making a enough money to even get my own apartment. Then God told me to start my own fitness business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Bryant Robinson the owner of Free Me Fitness LLC. Free Me Fitness provides health and wellness coaching programs for busy mothers who struggle with loosing weight, specifically in the midsection area. In the program we provide fitness training, meal plans, herbal supplement recommendations and more. The motto is to be physically and mentally healthy. So we take a holistic and spiritual approach on how to deal with the stresses of today. Through diet, exercise, meditation and words of encouragement. I started this business because I have dealt with anxiety, depression and high levels of stress for most of my life, and could never seem to break it. It wasn’t until I stated exercising on the regular in the gym, eating more healthy, and prayer that I seem to calm my mind. It helped me, so now I’m here to help others do the same. Women in particular just came and ask me for help the most and they are the ones who take it more serious. So they are my target audience. Plus I know how hard it is to find the time to exercise if you have kids. So our programs are for women to loose weight and tone up fast in a short time frame. Also I have active wear clothing for women and t shirts. The brand represents freedom to become the best version of yourself through healthy living!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
In my field what helps out the most other than the knowledge and training is being a people person. You have to be able to relate to people and be sympathetic to their problems. For example if a women 50lbs overweight comes to you with low confidence, and lack of motivation. You need to get into her business and have her share those emotions on why she feels that way ,and do your best to help her overcome that! That takes some personal people/person skills.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes if I could go back I would choose the same profession. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. This is my God given purpose that I have to fulfill. I always have been athletic my whole life and that was just the stepping stone to me being the fitness coach I am today! I love helping people get the results and feel better about themselves!
