We were lucky to catch up with Bryan Salvador recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bryan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happy as an artist! There’s a saying that I love and it’s, “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Ever since I was a child, I knew I always wanted to pursue art. Nothing in life has ever made me as happy as being able to just draw and create cool stuff. I grew up so fascinated by the worlds in movies, anime, video games, and that very much influenced my creative desire to pursue the life of an artist!
When wondering what it would be like to have a regular job, I think it goes back to passion. When you’re passionate about something, when you truly love doing that thing, it doesn’t feel like a chore or a mundane activity. I think if I chose to pursue a “regular” job I’d be devoid of passion. I think I’d still be dreaming about art. I would still fulfill the job, pay the bills, etc, but I know it would never fulfill my soul or my heart.
For me, pursuing happiness isn’t about wealth, but what fulfills your heart and gets you excited each and every day.

Bryan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I guess to start off, I got into this industry purely by creating and showcasing my works whenever and however I could! We live in an age of social media and that can really go a long way believe it or not. Some of the coolest gigs I’ve actually gotten is off Twitter purely because someone had reached out to me after seeing my work online. Ever since then it’s been a matter of reaching out to people or people contacting me, all the while really pushing your artwork out there into the world!
In terms of creative works I provide, I’ve dabbled a bit in everything from concept art to what I focus on now which is Illustration. My works today revolve around Character Splash Art Illustration for video games, marketing, and board / tabletop games.
For my clients I always want them to feel this is a team and collaborative effort. It’s my goal to bring their creative visions to life through good communication, feedback, and evolving design. I want my clients to feel relaxed and like we’re a group of friends making some really cool stuff together.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I believe the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to get in touch with your imagination and creative abilities. There’s an excitement and energy with each new idea you have and the concept of bringing something to life that never existed before is one of the most fascinating things we get to do.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Art and creativity is not something that just comes out of nowhere or is easy. Just like anything in life, it is a skill that becomes shaped and developed through time and dedication. I truly believe anyone can learn to draw or make awesome things given the time and practice they put into it! Professional artists spend years and so much time honing in their abilities and the ways they express themselves. When you hire an artist, you are hiring someone’s time, skills, and ultimately the core of their imagination and creative mind to make amazing things. Things that are a cultivation of all their experiences, practice, and passion in their life.
