We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bryan Maurice. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bryan below.
Bryan, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I have been able to be lucky enough to be able to make a living from my acting.
It hasn’t always been like this I literally had to create my own show and company to jump-start the process.
Making sure to hone my skills and choose the right projects and get cast in good paying roles.
My agent (Taher) at Engage Artists is a really big part of being able to get me good roles and pay
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry when I was 10 (now 35).
What sets me apart from others is my willingness to do it myself I’m self made and built.
I made my own TV Show and Production company and even have a streaming network that I own.
I’m most proud of having my own company and the ability to create my own projects the way I see fit.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Just this past year with the strike and other personal things going on I had to pivot a bit.
I’ve always been a cook at heart and have worked in many kitchens and am now a professional chef at a Michelin Star restaurant.
It’s helped my creativity and artistic ability as plating food has an art to it. It’s also helped me stay afloat and keep my business going this year
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Be humble
There’s no real backstory to it just I’ve been knocked down plenty of times and the only way to get back up is to be humble.
I have lost roles and opportunities due to me not being humble years ago. It’s a lesson I had to learn the hard way
